What if PSA scrambled Cert #’s

That’s great you’re not phased by the whole cert number carry on!

Ah, I’m sorry maybe I wasn’t overly clear with what I was meaning! When I say scrambled, I meant that it’s still accessible on the cards label. The numbers would just be generated at complete random and has no meaning unlike the current system. So each card could still be looked up and verified, given you know the cert number.

Yeah when people find out due the the cards cert number that their CD promos or 1st Ed holos were graded by Gary, that’s a pretty neat thing to know!
Well technically you can send a card to PSA to have it reholdered using their service however, it doesn’t include a cert number change. That’s actually PSA’s decision to deactivate a cert number and ask for you to send your card into them for a new cert, as far as I’m aware.

I think you’re talking about not having access to the cert which isn’t really what I was talking about but it’s an interesting thought. Scammers will always find a way no matter what security features are in place as year on year they are getting better. It’s always about trying to stay a step ahead each time.

Yeah the swings in the market always hit the 10s hardest, 8 and 9 collectors compared to 10s really have the best time. By far the best bang for your buck! To the seasoned collector like yourself the fall off doesn’t really apply if you’re not selling anyway! :pikatongue:

It’s good to reflect and know what you could do better next time around though so I hope you learn from your past self! I too barely sell and I like it that way although, I’m aware it’s one of my biggest flaws as a collector.

Exactly, every cert is new for it’s period in time. Just like the whole modern vs vintage debate, every vintage card was modern in it’s time, it’s just silly to me. I certainly hope it ends sooner than later as if that’s a collectors biggest problem then things must really be boring.
I wish the only problem I had as a collector was what cert I like most! :pikalaugh:

Ah that makes A LOT more sense to me  . Sorry I completely misread the OP :person_facepalming:. It’s an interesting idea. Overall I think having the option to get a randomized cert couldn’t hurt. Especially if you’re a seller trying avoid the whole new vs old cert stuff.

Assuming they are in comparable condition, I would be fine with paying maybe upwards of a 10% premium for the old cert.

With trophies I think I’d pay an even bigger premium for an ancient cert due to the Akabane situation.
