As the title suggests, what happened to EX Deoxys Booster Boxes? I noticed I have not seen a single one since maybe eight months ago or so. Were they limited print runs or is everyone just hoarding them then busting them out to make a splash in the market? I am interested in learning more about the history that may explain their scarcity.
They have the gold star rayquaza so people like to open them. Additionally, this era was a major low point for the TCG in terms of popularity so Iād imagine the print run is relatively small.
As stated previously gold star Rayquaza is very desirable. To add to this the set had some very playable cards for its time (Jirachi, Macargo, Ludicolo, Manectric ex) as well as some of most playable gold stars (Latias and Ray). So its quite likely that the majority of the sealed boxes were cracked when the set was legal. Just another aspect to consider.

I do think the prices of the three stars in the set are a massively contributing factor to the lack of deoxys boxes out there.

This was probably the lowest point of the hobby as a whole right here. Around Ruby & Sapphire people started to drop out of Pokemon and this was at the time of Emerald 2 years later where there would have been even less interest. I remember being in a Dicks Sporting Goods store and picking up a few packs of both this set and Crystal Guardians around 2006. Always thought it was really weird that a sporting goods store had Pokemon cards.
The market ate them all up, with those gold stars hitting those high price points, the good ol investors are either keeping them sealed because high demand/low supply demands a beautiful return. Or everyone is opening them to get nm to mint 8s fresh out of the box.
This makes much more sense to me now. I am interested at seeing the new price point once someone wants to sell it again.
