There are a lot of people asking questions about what grade this card will get, so I’m making a thread where you can ask and answer these questions!
I think there should be two categories to all of these types of threads. Will vs. Should. Through a Screen vs In Person.
Didnt think of that, thanks!
There is already a thread for this.
No free tokens for you.
Yeah but oftentimes people just make their own thread asking one question. I feel like it’d be much easier if we seperated the topics. One for general grading, another for asking what grades this card will get.
And if we’re talking about tokens the “what card do you appreciate” should have gotten me 2 tokens already /j
Take it from someone who buys heaps of cards to grade (from MercariJP/Y!J) to fund their collection, pictures typically only show half the story. Expect to get burned a lot on random surface issues.
Also you should have to specify which grading company. E.G. If you’d grade these with PSA, I’d count on getting a 6 on the Azelf (front bottom right corner alone) and a 7 on the Meowth (front right border has indents and lifted edges, back has 4+ dots of whitening).
I’m using CGC, and also how do you find lifted edges on these cards? I’ve seen people say these all the time but I still get CGC 10’s on them…
I have no experience with CGC so I cannot vouch for my accuracy with them. That being said;
The bottom circle is a raised edge, it reflects more light, from a light source to the left of the card (and viewpoint) because it is raised. The top two circles are likely depressed edges, where a shadow falls on the edge. I think very minor lifts in corners can get overlooked by grading companies. This stands out to me, so expect a grader to notice.
Just because someone else got a lucky overgrade, doesn’t mean you will ;). Buying the highest quality raws you can, is the best recipe for success.
I think I clocked roughly 3-4000 hours looking at poorly photographed raws at this point. You learn to scrutinize everything.
Echoing this. If you’re looking for cards to grade specifically on these platforms, look for sellers who go out of their way to show a card’s front and back surface under a light at different angles. You will find the vast majority of “NM” card listings do not show this, and you may end up with some nasty surface scratches or dents which will knock your card’s grade down. A lot of Japanese sellers (even reputable ones) are not aware of surface issues being a thing so they will not properly show this damage or convey it in their condition assessment.
Thank you for this info!
10, unless its not. If it isnt then its an 8… unless its a 9.
Dark background and no plastic are bare minimum to determine.
9/10
It did 10 ![]()
Called it ![]()
CGC 8 and CGC 7 respectively.
Cheers!
