These are all pretty much out of my budget :sweat_smile: But if I could have one, itā€™d be the crystals, for all reasons stated aboveā€“the art and card design are all just top-notch.

A clear edge that gold stars have over crystal cards is the delta species typing. Every gold star has a different, unexpected typing vs the crystal cards all having the normal/typeless typing.

Although that would make the crystals a more cohesive set, the individual winners are gold stars.

For me it goes gold stars, then crystal/shining, then 1st edition. 1st edition is definitely the most nostalgic for me. However, what sets gold stars and crystal/shining cards are better because they are different cards in the set. Whereas 1st edition cards are the same artwork and cards as unlimited.

Itā€™s interesting how the crystals are actually less common/harder to pull as reverse holos and definitely a lot harder to grade yet they sell for so much less than the regular versions

Here i come with a likely unpopular opinion. Generally, i dont love texturing on cards. Despite how flashy, bright and crazy textured cards often are, i find their colours feel kinda dull/ flat in comparison to non-textured cards. I like gold stars as regular holos!

This is a pretty interesting poll. Personally, I donā€™t have any nostalgic attachment to any of them, but I absolutely love the holo pattern and general card design of the crystals. The gold stars as holos are nice, especially with their glow around borders on the card, but donā€™t touch crystals imo. I recently viewed a similar poll posted to Instagram, where gold stars won overwhelmingly.

E-series is overrated, crystals are mid. 1st Ed > gold star > crystal. Aquapolis lugia is sick af but skyridge charizard can get flushed in the toilet

I feel like first ed are in a different category as well. Shining, Crystal, Gold Star, Legend, are the comps, I think. But itā€™s definitely 1st Ed for me.

I would not say they are mid, but honestly a lot of them do get outclassed by many of the regular eseries holos

Donā€™t forget about the Platinum era SH shinies. Probably the most underrated shiny set in existence. Many of these cards show species that donā€™t often get the limelight, and I really like how they are shown in their natural habitat. Also, the set has the only shiny Milotic card in the TCG.

Yeah, Crystals are kinda mid in the sense that everyone and their wifeā€™s dogā€™s uncle should spread the word to as many influencers as possible so card prices tank. Definitely not looking to scoop up some of these ā€œmidā€ cards. No, sir.

Funny you mention this. When I returned to the hobby, I didnā€™t care for them at all either. But as Iā€™ve built up my Neo collection, Iā€™m begun to gain a better appreciation for them. I really like the Mewtwo and Charizard especially. Iā€™m definitely going to try and get them in my collection at some point.

Anyway, it all comes to preference in the end, and I like that we all can appreciate these cards in different ways :slight_smile:
