Imo I go down the route of doing both - I think there is nothing wrong with trying to grade stonks or trawl ebay for flips etc if it’s something you enjoy. Could I pickup Uber driving in my spare time instead of grading absolute bottom tier japanese ultra modern, and make more money that way? Maybe, but one of them is growing my ebay store, allowing me to interact with the hobby, buyers etc and the other is boring.

To be clear, I’m not endorsing the absolute shitfest that occurred at the Van Gogh museum, not at all.

However I do think that a portion of the ultra hype beasts who are doing the race to the bottom on every newest set, promo etc are just trying to ‘make it’ in this hobby the only way they know how, and personally I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing like it is sometimes made out to be on here. Give it time and maybe they’ll go through viridian forest and make it out onto the other side of doing business. I know how much passion I have for this hobby and I’d probably even put myself in this camp.

This is probably a very unpopular opinion. I have typed and deleted it 3 times now so please be gentle

Scyther was robbed. If Scizor gets a green shiny, Scyther should have been red. Not simply a ever-so-slightly different shade of green.

I used to do both, but the grind was just too much stress… I DO trawl ebay for great deals tho. :yum: Maybe pick a better job than uber tho. heh…

I think it’s perfectly fine. But, I was originally hinting at the dichotomy of wanting to be that kind of person to hustle and flip, but also not wanting to. haha

YES! But wasn’t/Isn’t Scizor gold/bronze? Did they change him?! :scream:
edit: Unpopular opinion, but I choose to believe: Gold!

I’m glad someone noticed. That is exactly why I put them there… Subtlety… An unpopular opinion?

Unpopular opinion: some of the coolest shiny’s we ever got are very close to the regular form, and that’s a good thing.

Case in point; imagine for a moment that Blissey is a Buick Roadmaster '56. You paint it in the candy pink to the left and it’ll look like the Barbie mobile. You paint it in the light coral pink to the right, now it looks like a timeless classic.

Or Regice, the shiny just looks deeper than the regular, and it’s kind of the only color that makes sense.

Artificial scarcity, as i understand it, includes all rarity/scarcity that exists for an arbitrary reason.

These reasons can include things like
“This set needs secret rares from a set design standpoint”
“It would be cool to have a rarer version of this card with full art treatment, let’s include those”
“It’s the 20th anniversary, let’s release a limited product that will only be printed 1,000 times because that number makes sense to do”

This can all be compared to trophy or prize cards, which are printed based on non-arbitrary, non-contrived factors such as “how many world’s tournament winners will there be this year?”

The idea is that the cards “just happen” to be rare because rarity is a necessary outcome of awarding cards for competition or other reason.

Of course you could argue that the number of events held or cards awarded is just as artificial as anything else, it isn’t essential that these events exist and they are decided by the same company putting secret rares in packs, but the idea is that the event and the competition come first. It’s not like TPCI is like “man we need to release some trophies this year, better hold a tournament”.

Imagine if they did. It would just be a callback to the first episode with Scyther and the ketchup bottle:

I wouldn’t even known which was the shiny of those two lol.

Like I said, if they look like just a desaturated or saturated image, then it’s bad.

Regice could be white or gold or whatever. Shiny colours don’t need to make sense.

Fossil and jungle holos are way over valued in psa 10.

Snorlax/gengar/articuno/vaproeon/kangaskhan/dragonite

Should all be 1500 or so and every other holo well under 1k

Those are some of the hardest holos to grade from each set! Wotc has cooled off for awhile so I feel like it’s difficult for many cards to be overvalued. Not saying you are necessarily wrong, but those specific cards are hard to grade and/or some of the most popular.

If Gengar / Articuno / Snorlax went to 1500 i would buy them all without thinking twice.
Yes im a 90’s kid😅

I would even argue when a 25 year old ‘rookie’ psa 10 1st edition holo pop 100 is only worth double that of a 10.000 psa 10 pop + alt art is absolutely wild.

More bashed from a condition perspective.

I also lol’d at hypocrisy of the two posts.

Wotc pre e-series cards with light backgrounds always had print lines and 10s are so scarce
