I find calling 1st edition base “1st edition shadowless” annoying.

I would not want to tell anyone how to display or protect their collection, but unless you plan on playing frisbee or something with the slabs it seems like overkill

Can understand that people might find it a little excessive, but I like the extra colour gradedguard brings to the slabs and phantomdisplay for the nice sleek modern look. Just my preference no worries.

I’m gonna add on with a spicy take, JP textured cards are far superior because they are applied sparingly and with consideration to the art in most cases. EN prints are just “here take some texture” and randomly slapped on hence the weird fingerprint look all over.

I’d be surprised to find preferring japanese texture to be an unpopular opinion, but I’m sure there are plenty of international stans out there who will argue for it along with the mustard borders

Don’t think it’s unpopular especially nowadays. Modern Alt art prices for Japanese is usually higher than the English counterpart. The market seems to have priced this factor in.

The only issue is print lines galore for Japanese cards.
How is that not distracting?

I agree it’s distracting. But hear me out just for discussion’s sake.
For EN, poor design choices lead to a strange, unthoughtful visual overall plus the production errors like centering, whites etc. As opposed to JP which has deliberate visual elements like spot UV, holos etc with some minor production errors… The overall package is slightly flawed of course, but much more presentable.
We are just talking modern here I assume, I’m not experienced enough to know if print lines are an issue in older JP cards, but from my limited collection so far, I have yet to see any in those. I might be lucky?

I have not purchased any yet, but I think some sets of promo cards look nice with different colors. Like the poncho Pikachu full arts

yeah the jp print lines are a pain for sure. it still boils down to overall aesthetic for me. when i flip through a binder, or see cards together, i will always prefer the neutral grey borders

i know for many who prefer yellow, it has to do with it feeling/looking more like a pokemon card which is a totally valid opinion to have

Yeah actually if I was going to display a single card on my desk or something this is how I would do it tbh. I like that it lets that card stand vertically. Your Umbreon looks good in there.

The PSA case case reminds me of the candy bar bag carrying bag from SpongeBob.

For some reason, I actually prefer ungraded Holos that have a slight convex bend (the face of the card bends outwards). I prefer this over having no bend at all, and especially over a concave bend (the face is curved inward).
