What are your 2023 collection goals?

Many of my “core” collecting goals are completed or near-completed, so I would like to relax a bit over the next year.

My hopes for 2023:

More card shows/events to buy/trade/sell in person
Continuing to sell what I no longer want and upgrading when feasible
Hanging out with all of you
Revisiting the video games
Watching the anime and movies
Focusing on my niche and developing interests

Quick retro from '22:

· Complete my PSA 10 1st Holo Jungle set

Almost complete! Missing Snorlax ~~~

· Complete my PSA 10 1st Holo Fossil set

Complete!

· Upgrade my PSA 9 Gym Heroes set to PSA 10s

I changed my mind a couple months into '22. I started collecting 1st ed 10’s from many WOTC sets as they came up and I felt like I was getting a good deal. Felt like a better use of my time and money to tackle multiple that I know I’ll want to get eventually.

Goals for 2023:

Try to be more engaged with the other folks in the hobby, I don’t talk to many other collectors.
PSA 10 Holo Sets: Complete my Jungle set, and continue on other WOTC sets (focusing on Discovery, Gym Heroes, and Genesis).
Complete my PSA 10 set of Rainbow Rares from the S&M Era.

Hello everyone!

I always enjoy having a look back to see how my collection has evolved. Let’s see how I have done this year.

2022 Collection Review

1. Complete 1st Edition Jungle in Spanish: 58/64 --> 58/64
2. Complete 1st Edition Fossil in Spanish: 60/62 --> 60/62

Although I have completed them without the 1st edition stamp, I am exactly in the same position I was 1 year ago. I have dedicated my resources to another goal. See point 4.

3. Complete Vending series:  69/125 --> 78/125

Driven away by my main goal, I got some cards early this year. But It is definitively something I want to pick up again. I really love those cards.

4. Pokemon & Trainer are ready to battle, in which Pokemon
and trainer appear in the card and they are ready to battle. 
The theme is really subjective, as I remove some cards I do not enjoy.
47/134 --> 173/XXX

This 4th point took all my attention this year, adding up to 126 cards to this theme, which it is now cards in which people and Pokemon are present. I really enjoy this theme, picking up and investigating cards covering all TCG cards. Quite a diverse collection.

2022 Highlights

1st time to worlds (as spectator). There are no words to explain how I much enjoyed the experience. I cannot wait for Japan 2023.
Competing in the London Open, in 1 Regional, and in 2 Special Events. I love how healthy and supportive the Pokemon community is. I will continue competing in some future events. I love travelling with my team! Such an experience.

2023 Goals

Pokemon & Trainer are ready to battle: Keep growing the collection. No specific goal, except for 2-3 cards I would really like to add to my collection. Only Japanese cards, except for those not released in Japan. I am currently on 175 cards. Sun & Moon is at 54/74 and Sword & Shield at 69/127 (s12a not counted yet).
Grow Vending series, currently at 69/125.

Im considering 2022 a massive success for my collection. I’m two cards away from finishing my 1st Ed base set which is huge for me. (Still a few weeks left in the year, we’ll see!) I did preemptively jump into other sets and expanded my Worlds collection but I’m very happy I did. I was also much more active on the forum thanks to the amazing upgrade.

My 2023 goals:

• Complete 1st edition Jungle PSA 9 set
• Attend Worlds in Japan
• Continue to be patient and enjoy the ride.

My 2023 goals are current as follows (will update as I think of others):

Completing a PSA 10 set of Masaki promos (May not be able to complete this by 2023, but hopefully will complete this by the end of 2024)
Getting a set of BGS 10 Pristine (not Black Label) Kouki Saitou Special Art Rare cards from VSTAR Universe! - The artwork is absolutely amazing, and I just love how the cards in the set form one image!

My goal is just to pay up for the rare items when they’re available.

Regret is painful, bid now.

I think I accomplished that. Interesting to note that I bought 0 cards on eBay and 0 graded cards this year - it was all raw cards from Japan.

For 2023 my goal is to sell most of my stuff and spend a lot less time on cards in general.

Well, I wasn’t here early 2022 to post my goals but I hit 4/5 of them!

-Make 1 submission to CGC (my first ever to them)
-Obtain PSA 9 Neo 3 Ho-oh holo
-Obtain G/S/C Japanese CIB
-Expand my Kimura binder collection

I also was able to open 5 booster boxes this year which is was more than I’ve ever opened! (4 Pokémon/1 Yu-gi-oh) also got destroyed on pulls with those haha. (I can’t stand opening modern product)
But I had fun doing it so that’s all that counts in the end!

But for 2023, my goals are the following:

-Complete my Karen binder and obtain a graded copy of each Karen appearance card

(have a few already so should be obtainable)

-Obtain my Kimura Grail, a PSA Japanese Crystal Lugia!

(Really want to trade for this one, got a Complete PSA 9 Japanese Neo Genesis holo set i’m willing to trade it for) FYI everyone haha

-Make another CGC/PSA submission
-Open a VSTAR Universe box
-Get to 75% of my Kimura binder completed

I may edit this later but this is mostly what I’d like to accomplish.

I’m 33% through the PSA 9 ex set and may 85% done a Himeno binder. These were both like sidequests I had going. I can probably try to finally complete the Himeno binder in 2023 though

Depressing to read the goals I set here: What are your 2022 Pokemon collecting goals? - #43 by pokemon_matt and it seems cards took a back seat for the majority of the year, but did cross off a couple:

Pre-Sun & Moon master set completion, which I need:

Worlds 2004 Staff - haven’t got this yet
* Evolutions Double Colorless energy International (Europe) Staff PSA 10 acquired!

Then I’ll also aim for:

Sun & Moon master set completion - ~~451 to go~~ 399 to go
Sworld & Shield 90% master set completion (including the sets that will be released) - practically no progress here

Side quests:

Fossil 2000 rares - ~~9 to go~~ 7 to go
Trainer Deck A & B - didn’t get them

Based on the poor performance above, I’ll be a bit more modest this year:

Pre-Sun & Moon master set completion - only Worlds 2004 Staff left
Sun & Moon master set completion - 399 to go
