What are your 2022 Pokemon collecting goals?

My main focus is set collecting modern. Trying to maintain each new master set of the sword and shield era along with 1 booster box, 1 etb, and 1 build and battle kit. Prior to chilling reign I had each set completed prior to the next set coming out. I stalled out on chilling reign. I want to catch up and keep up starting with brilliant stars.
Also completely let go of FOMO. 2021 was a great learning year. I picked the hobby back up at the end of 2019 and really got outta of control there with my spending. I’ve been able to real it in considerably. It went from a hobby to an obsession back now to a controlled hobby. Either way I’ve enjoyed it the whole time.

Oh and also finish my raw hgss prime collection.

I will start very humble:

  1. Filling a double page with Trainer Full Arts in my binder
  2. Same for character arts (mostly VMax Climax)
  3. Finishing my Erika (Gym Heroes Collection)

@johnnymucho, “Stop buying cards I don’t need” is very good advice (and very difficult in practice).

I’m going to take it fairly easy this year and not set myself massively lofty goals that I won’t get to do so for now my plans are

  • finish both ultra shiny GX and shiny star V
  • to knock out at least 1 PSA 10 gold star and 1 PSA 9 shining from what I still need.

I guess I forgot to post 2021 goal, but I did post 2020 goal which was to have a trophy card of some sort. That goal is kind of complete since I do have a PSA 9 mysterious Peral. My 2022 goal would be to buy more uniquely released cards for my collection. Other than that I guess my other goal would be to finally upload my collection to my collection thread when I have time (wanted to do it over Christmas, but was to mentally exhausted from exams).

It sure is. It reminds of me being a kid, seeing something shiny or craving junk food and reflexively determining I NEED it. I’ve gotta tighten up in that regard for sure so I’m not throwing money around on cards that have no intention of being bindered up or sent for grading.

So far, so good!

I finished gathering the singles for my LP binder for Base set, Jungle and Fossil throughout 2019-2021 (just waiting for the spring to sleeve and binder as they’re all curling up with these cold winters).

I plan to work on Neo Genesis in 2022 and if I’m ambitious, Neo Discovery and Neo Revelations.

I’ve made solid progress into the world of cameo’s and nearly completed the Erika collection.

So I guess I am planning on:

  1. Getting the Clefable and Victorybel to complete Erika’s set.
  2. Get up to date on all the cameo’s in English.
  3. Get the Art Contest Chespin Gabi… see point 2
  4. Make progress on the full art trainers, but don’t expect to finish that this year. (The trainers matching the cameo)

I will possibly have decided by the end of the year if I want to go further than cameos and get the gym heroes / challenge style ownership cards.

spend less money than 2021. be more patient when a new set releases and wait for prices to drop on singles

spend more money. Stuff is tons cheaper now (at least english set cards) so I would think spending more money would give you the best possible chance to pick up some good stuff on a budget.

my taste is super specific. i have most of the stuff i want until new sets get released and new cards come out. i’m not going to pick up some older stuff that doesn’t mean anything to me just because its cheaper than it was

My goals mostly consist of getting some of my current cards graded, along with purchasing some big singles. My collection up until now has been almost entirely sealed stuff, which is cool, but now that I have my grail (06 rayqauza tin), I’d like to move on to raw cards.

Crystal Nidoking, Japanese Metagross Gold Star, and the og japanese charizard are some that I’m looking at!

I have a few more old back JP exclusives to knock out. My main goal is still getting a participation card from all of the early tournament events. Still need a trophy Kang and a TMB Lucky Stadium. Might downsize my English collection in order to acquire one of them this year.

I’m hoping to make a non-holo binder of the first 151 Pokémon, but it’s an art appreciation binder. What that means is that for each Pokémon I’m picking the art I like the most. It’s been really fun to go through the Serebii database picking them out!

I decided years ago my card collection is complete the way it is. The last 9 years I only played the game and run tournaments.
My goal is to show my collection on youtube and in the long run sell al my “left over” cards (after grading perhaps)
I do need to organize my cards better.

However I did find something I will collect, Ho-oh figures. I do have a few but found those terrarium ones I really like.

I intend to go on a spending spree this year and make some big collection additions. For years I’ve been relatively subdued because I’ve been a perpetual student. That’s about to change. I’m defending my PhD in a couple days.

I’ll start making a good salary when I start my new job in a few weeks. Yes, I know, I will take care of boring life stuff like save 15% for retirement in a 401k. No worries. Thankfully I don’t have any student loans or other debt, so I expect to have a healthy amount of disposable income to put into the hobby.

My focus will be English WOTC 1st Edition Holos in PSA 9. Not sure what order I’ll hit them in. I’ll probably just look for deals where I can find them, rather than stick to a specific set at a time. I would like to pick up the 1st Ed Base Zard sooner rather than later, though. I currently own one in a PSA 7, which I picked up last year. I don’t want to sell it for a loss otherwise I could use it toward an upgrade.

My reason for focusing on English WOTC is because I have deep nostalgic connections to the whole era. I was active during all of that time as a kid. For years I’ve dreamed of completing PSA 9 sets of those cards. I look forward to taking bigger steps in that direction this year.

Last year I’ve spent a bit too much than I should’ve because I’m just done renovating and furnishing my house. This year I’ll have more to spend but I want to spend it less impulsively. There are a select amount of cards I’d like such as specific Japanese promos and a couple of graded English cards.

Perhaps one day I’ll be able to post my own, small yet humble, collection here!

That’s so cool! I thought I was one of the few collecting purely based on artwork taste. I love your concept, it’s so original. Literally as well I suppose!
