Were Neo Revelation Cards the Hardest to Grade?

I’ve been collecting holos from the Neo series for a while now in PSA 10. For 3/4 sets I’m at around 40-50%. But I only have one card from Neo Revelation (Crobat). I can’t seem to find them on eBay that often either.

I know that a bulk of the cards were popular legendary Pokemon - Ho-oh, the three dogs, and the two shinings, but the other cards don’t seem to pop up either in PSA 10 example.

Were the holos difficult to grade in this set in particular?

My opinion it is base set 2. Print lines EVERYWHERE as well as rough corners on more than there should be.

While Neo Revelation is a bit difficult to grade, I think it has more to do with demand. This set is highly underrated and there’s not a lot of the demand for many of the cards atm. Just look at the grade submissions for most of them, they’re pretty low tbh. I’m sure once more people become interested in the set, you’ll see more PSA 10s pop up.

Genesis 1st edition was pretty bad as well with the print lines. As for Rev, I think its slightly above discovery in terms of popularity, so that plays a role for sure. I would say for neo it goes Destiny > Genesis > Rev > Discovery in terms of pop.

But it has the first appearances of Ho-oh, the legendary dogs, and the first Shining Pokemon. It’s a pretty important set imo.

I was told by a person who grades a lot of cards that indeed it’s a tough set to get good grades from PSA. Also, the low population is due to the fact that sealed 1st Edition Neo Rev Boxes sell for around 4K. So collectors would rather keep sealed product than risk opening a box and getting a bad batch of cards.

I remember someone here had a list of the pop count for several of the sets, and a % rate for the different grades. Not sure if they’ve kept updating the list though. I haven’t been on these forums in a very long time…Wish I could better answer your question.

That person is half wrong, while the price of the box is a factor it’s still mostly based on demand. Back when a Base Set 1st Ed Box was $5,000 and even $10,000 you had people opening them for profit. That set was difficult to grade too but it was worth the risk due to the set having such a high demand. Even Neo Destiny is a good example of this.

Right now the only demand for Neo Revelation are the PSA 10 holos. Most of the PSA 9s (with the exception of legends and shinings) are barely worth over $50 and most of the non holos are worthless. The entire set is just undervalued and underrated atm, but if people start showing more interest in the set itself rather than just PSA 10 graded holos then I guarantee the population will rise.

coming from me revelation has probably been the worst. I’ve owned over 9 mint copies of each card and still haven’t found a potential 10 copy of a few holos. there are always print lines on them or a Nick. discovery and destiny were the best quality over all with clean holos… usually and no nicks usually but destiny did have silvering issues. as for genesis those cards have centering issues and horrible print lines but the backs of the cards are generally pristine. the destiny shinings are pretty easy 10s as well. I’ve had pretty bad luck with fossil as well out of about 30 holos I’ve probably graded 5 10s.
