Viral's Collection of Mysterious Japanese Pearls

Thought it was about time to start a collection thread. Before moving to Japan, I solely collected Charizard cards, whilst my girlfriend collected Pikachus. Yep, we both chose probably the most difficult ‘sets’ to complete. Since moving to Japan, I’ve become literally amazed at the quality of the cards over here, and have fallen in love with the artwork on the unique sets that were never made available in English print. I check my local stores pretty much every day for new stock, spending $3000+ per month on cards. Usually these aren’t just for me, but also as tradebait, but I’ve come to amass a very nice collection in my eyes, and this is aside from the 20,000+ holographics that I have aside! I’m always taking suggestions for things to add to my collection. I very much would like ideas as you may know of something that I haven’t yet seen. Hint: If it’s Japanese and some sort of promotional set, I’ll probably want it  .

I’ll update this thread from time to time with new collections, pictures, etc. If you have something I want, let me know! Eventually I’d like a PSA 10 of everything within, but I know that’ll be pretty much impossible. The lists below will have crossovers/ overlap (i.e Shining Charizard will show up under the shinings and charizard heading). It would annoy me otherwise. All cards are Japanese unless otherwise stated.

hay man is this also a needs thread as i have something u might like?

I was also thinking this, you have some stuff I wouldn’t mind trading for I’m sure as our collection goals are very similar by the looks of it.

I’ll probably make a new trade thread for those purposes. I won’t be buying anything, just trading, and I won’t be putting my tradebait in this thread to avoid clutter  .

Added just over half of the unnumbered promos to the list. Taken a few hours but getting there. Please ignore the icons for now, I’ve not been marking what I have and don’t have. Will update periodically. In the meantime, I want some more collection suggestions. I like obscure Japanese promos  .

Right, so finally added all unnumbered promos up to 2008. I’m not too interested in most cards after that so that’s good enough for me. I don’t expect to ever own half of these cards (tropicals, victory rings, no1/2/3 trainers) but it’s good documentation for me nonetheless.

I need to update this thread big time at some point. But I’m mainly posting to showcase a couple of gems.

1: Picked it up today. The JR stamp rally Meowth promo (Japanese non holo release of the English GB holo promo). Complete with insert and IC holder.

2: Master scroll sealed in fan club insert!

Quality additions, love the JR Rally Meowth

Really nice additions… congrats…

Took pics of all my PSAs yesterday (not including 200 or so on its way back currently!)

Nice collection! I especially like that picture with the Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard.

Greetz,
Quuador

Where’s that No Rarity Charizard in that PSArmy?

Really enjoy the classic Japanese promos in PSA 10’s. Looking forward to seeing your new PSA additions.

Curious to know your thoughts on why you have multiples of the same card with the same grade? Is it a prestige thing or just coincidentally have multiples of many different cards? (Looking more specifically at say the AltoMares Lati@s cards or Grand Parties.

Thanks

Not back yet! Have 200 cards on its way back to me now haha.

Thanks

I only do it for some of the higher end cards. I have a thing for Grand Partys, and the alto mares came in one of those large block fun cubes I buy here so wanted to grade them. Plus generally if I think a card has a decent sale price in a PSA 10, I’ll grade it. But again, generally high end cards, or just Japan-only release ones. They deserve their protection :stuck_out_tongue: .

Going to highlight this picture again:

Was really fun finding these sets over the past year or so. And not fun having PSA grade 2/3 a 10 and the other a 9 on more occassions than I can count on one hand. But I’ve done it.

I recently made a decision to heavily downsize my collection, so pretty much everything is going. I originally wanted a full set of gold stars, shinings and crystals, but they just don’t interest me that much to be honest. I’m more interested in Japan only artwork etc. For that reason, I’m keeping a hold of the tmag set in PSA 10, and will be working on getting the player promo set in a PSA 10 and so if anyone has anything I don’t have player-promo wise please let me know! I know there are a few which I’ll probably never get, but oh well haha. I’m also collecting old sealed Japanese products as they look cool. Will be adding a picture soon

Haha I feel I’m at a disadvantage here…

Been wanting to showcase these for ages; finally got the cases today. Unfortunately one case came cracked so getting it replaced (hopefully) but I’m still using it for now.

For those of you who want any of my PSA cards without spending money - if you have any other cool old Japanese sealed stuff I’m happy to trade  . As many of you know I’m trying to downsize my card collection and it’s this stuff that I want. Sealed booster boxes are also A-OK!

Nice! Are those cases custom made?
