Vertemes Art THREAD - The creator of *HEADLOCK* responded

DISCLAIMER: You might be dissapointed.

I made this post specifically because this art took WEEKS to do. I could only use gradiant meshes for color, which led to a lot of painful details (and the file got corrupted, almost ruining all my progress. But FINALLY, I’ve completed it.

This was made using adobe illustrator, and I tried to make it as 1 to 1 as possible while only using the gradiant mesh tool for color.

for comparison:

Again, this took WEEKS and is the biggest project I’ve ever worked on probably in my life and accomplished. The amount of detail I put in the rayquaza is disgusting. I’m so burnt out lol. I might make more projects like this, but I’m definetly done with art for now…

It looks magnificent! Doing it in Adobe Illustrator requires a lot of skill too, and you surely chose the hard way to replicate that rayray.

I’m so so impressed, please keep going with other artworks!

Suprisingly the tail color symmetry and right claw were the hardest to get right. Spent hours just adjusting that and restarted on the hand 5 times.

Looks great,

Random question for a rayquaza collector if rayquaza was in How to Train Your Dragon would their be two dragons named toothless? What do you think?

Rayquaza has 2 teeth, so it depends. maybe a 60/40 chance.

I’m no artist, but lines and flat colors seem like a good start

I have to still:

  • Create a “filter” to style rayquaza and deoxys in traditional Japanese
  • Add the missing details I intentionally left out and filter them
  • Add the painstaking ball detail (not pictured in drawing)
  • Touchup details (can take hours)
  • Start on Background, figuring out the color palette and correct filtering
  • Add each individual layer of background art (waves, ground, volcano, etc)
  • Add groundon and kyogre in the background (This is gonna be the worst :sob:)
  • Add extra details again, making sure to be careful about layering
  • filter AGAIN
  • Add Zygarde
  • Add Details to Zygarde
  • Add Details around Zygarde
  • Filter Zygarde completely differently
  • and finally: LIGHTING

So yeah, we ain’t 5% done…

Finished the coloring to fit Ukyoie style, made the background like washi paper.

This looks amazing! I could never get the hang of illustrator :joy: or vector art. Once I picked up SAI all other art programs confused me and I gave up trying. Can’t wait to see the final product!

It taken me almost 13 days so far, and development is now going faster, I have a great teacher also and I’m currently in a rivalry with one of my fellow classmates (senior), who’s currently kicking my butt rn with his project (but I’ll never tell him that.)

The final product will probably come late march early april maybe?

Development was actually WAY quicker than I expected, and I can now confidently say that I’m DONE with this project. I still have to add more background details, but every major part of the artworks is finished. I’m so burnt out from this project, and I can’t believe I had enough in me to persevere like this.

Thanks everybody for your support, and until the next project!
