My non base WOTC boxes have Logos on the bottom, but I dont have any base to compare it to.

Shocked that people are still even debating the legitimacy of that box. Looks exactly like counterfeits that have been developed by a guy named plumecustoms on Instagram.

Probably the same guy who was messaging all the ebay sellers with base boxes asking for the dimensions of the WOTC logo. Zero shame.

@bulbusaurboye, the only person debating it is Tims.Wins lol. Everyone else has been on the same page about the box being inauthentic since the start.

It may not even be the same person, as upon looking more closely the box in the image I linked looks more accurate than the one in that eBay auction (poke ball in particular). Not sure if he just practiced on a real box, or if his fake boxes are better. I’m working right now, so I’m only looking at the pictures on mobile. But for anyone arguing that the WOTC logos on the shrink wrap are proof enough, there are people out there already faking that too.

Edit: @zorloth not trying to call out anyone in particular. I saw that many of you were calling it a fake already. Just figured this might convince any remaining doubters.

I dont know how anyone is debating if the box is real or not. I see that pic for one second and its an obvious fake.

Hahaha that Poke Ball logo is just…no. Bruh. Come on.

It is what it is.

@bulbasaurboye imagine what he could have achieved with his life had he instead spent all that time perfecting something of value, rather than committing fraud and carving a path for widespread scamming…

What is the meaning of ‘WOCO20153’ found on the bottom of the (pg 12 counterfeit) box?

I’m looking at my old fake box, and the layout is identical to the bottom of the one youse are discussing, except the code on mine says WOCO6034.

Also I wonder if there was a reason the Ebay seller did not take a full photo of the Charizard side.

Sounds like you were right… PokeRev released a video about these fake unlimited boxes yesterday actually - most likely someone selling realistic “proxy” boxes and the people buying are then listing them on ebay now to take advantage. That same proxy reseller is taking pre-orders on 1st edition proxy boxes now apparently too.

I can’t understand how proxy cards are allowed to be listed, let alone boxes now. Disgusting.

They technically aren’t allowed but who has the time to go through and report every single listing

This could/should be its own thread. It’s really disgusting behavior, he tries to cover himself by being open about them being fakes. But on the bottom of the box or somewhere on it, it should state that the box is a replica. Creating the box in the exact same way is really messed up. I think if he wants to create these fake boxes but actually put a label on the box saying that it’s not authentic, he can fuck off but still do whatever he wants

People need to stop calling them replicas or proxies. They’re counterfeits and the guy selling them is a scumbag.

Probably one of the worst if not the worst. Has fallen nearly 50% from the highs but could fall quite a lot more with all the fakes around imo.

I’m so shocked it’s going for more than the 1st ed jungle and rocket boxes… it’s the worst wotc sealed investment right now imo, but then again that’s just my opinion. The market is the market :man_shrugging: people really want them for the nostalgia I think, not the poor expected value

Hey all,

First of all, I want to thank everyone who has posted about that 18+k box that most are calling a counterfeit. I am in the process of auditing a box exactly like this, and through my own research, I have also become suspicious…and also a bit hopeful. Let me explain.

I am in the business, and had a client contact me about selling a box that he had picked up 6 years ago at an estate sale, along with a bunch of loose cards. He passes a lot of my “tests” when it comes to verifying his own trustworthiness (I’ve developed my own strategy for this over the years as a used-and-NOS-goods merchant), so needless to say, if his box is inauthentic, it will be news to him as well.

There are a number of these that have been floating around recently on ebay, and so that’s where my search started. These boxes all share a number of similar characteristics, and differ from other BSU boxes in exactly the same ways:

-A relatively loose, rectangle seal, with the Wizards logo slanted downwards rather than slanted upwards

-slightly different box art, most notable is the yellow background flavor on the front, which is a completely different pattern. Notice the darker, brown area in the lower left corner.

-Bottom has all the country codes, “Printed In USA”, and the MPN “WOC20153” rather than the other, more common “06033”.

As far as the boxes, they all appear to have identical construction to “normal” WOTC BSU boxes. One thing I have not been able to find is a great pic of the diagonal seam with the slight perforations on the bottom of the box- the one that I am auditing, I will see in person on Saturday. In any case, this was not just a single box that someone re-sealed and tried to pass off: There are at least 5 of these that I know of, including the one offered to me.

As a man of reason, I’m skeptical and have not made up my mind on them. However, I also am fairly familiar with the slap-dash way that Wizards printed Magic and Pokemon during their fledgling days, and the immense amount of packaging and box variations on nearly all of the sets released from the very beginning through the early 2000’s makes me wonder if all of these identical boxes may be another variant that simply looks different than the rest. At some point, someone will need to open one up. Remember, the seller that I am talking to has held onto this box for SIX years, and I do trust the guy at this point.

I will have more info and better photos on Saturday when I have the box in hand. I will do a peek test, I’ll grill the guy for all he’s worth, and see if I can either get him caught in a lie, or find out whether my feeling about him is correct- that he is telling the truth.

In any event, I find all of this fascinating. Here are some pics of the box I am going to see. imgur.com/a/Abvilh7

The top of the box is just so off … I really can’t look past that.

Unless the colours of the first photo have been wildly edited, that’s a pretty easy fake and consistent with the ones that began to surface in 2020.
