I know you get your yucks off of disagreeing with everything I say on here, but who is wasting their time and resources resealing a box in that condition with a seal that has WOTC logos?
Those tears are clearly because the box has see some heavy loving. Plastic stretches without tearing, cardboard not so much.
Please explain to me how a box gets a tear like this without the shrinkwrap showing some evidence of it?
Also: I’ve never seen this much loose shrinkwrap on the corners – I’ve seen small amounts on authentic boxes, but this box nearly has enough extra shrinkwrap to cover another booster box lol:
But perhaps the biggest tell that it’s inauthentic is that the top and bottom shrinkwrap shows little to no wear. The Wizards logos are totally clean and the shrinkwrap appears to have few, if any, scratches. Generally, if the cardboard box is in terrible condition, the shrinkwrap will also show some signs of wear. The shrinkwrap and cardboard box are in incongruent condition.
Could it be authentic? Sure. But it’s sketchy enough that I wouldn’t touch it.
@kingboo64, True, but the coloration on the other sides of the box looks totally fine, which makes me think that the off coloration on the top of the box may have been from sunfading.
Look at the shape of the ball, it’s rounder. Look at the colors, they’re not right. I’ve seen pictures of sun faded, it wouldn’t completely remove the black circle on the inside of the ball. Definitely fake
You said it yourself, that shrink wrap is loosey goosey.
So everyone in here is going with the fact that this box is in horrible condition, and fake to begin with, but was the reseller was confident in resealing over its crappy condition with a quality WOTC shrink-wrap? That seems like an unlikely duo.
Even if it was legit - who would want to actually buy that box?
Most or all of WOTC boxes are -EV if opened. I think the popularity/demand of base set shows that although there’s so much of it printed, the price is deservedly higher than jungle/fossil/rocket
I will say damaged boxes, sealed are nearly impossible to sell. People will make you want to open the box yourself with the offers youll get and high end collectors wont touch damaged boxes. The only people you get interest from are scalpers who want to crack it themselves at a markup, so the best way to do it is to crack it reputably at a reasonable price.
Colours wrong, pictures and words blurry, design incorrect, cardboard is low quality, shrink wrap is applied incorrect, box artificially damaged to try make it look legit…
There hasn’t been a more fake box sold, ever…
this is not a sun faded box, the design does not change due to sun fading, this is not a resealed box - the box itself is obviously not genuine, anyone considering this may be a real box should educate themselves before speaking!
This is true. By my estimations, Unlimited Base Set booster boxes’ expected value is 35% lower than 1st Edition Jungle’s expected value, yet it sold 86% more boxes these past 5 months. Unlimited Base Set’s expected value is 33% lower than 1st Edition Team Rocket’s expected value, yet it sold 35% more boxes these past 5 months. Despite having a much lower expected value and being much more common, Unlimited Base Set sells significantly higher than these 2 sets. However, it does have the advantage of having more valuable holo rares than these expansions. One can speculate that holo rares will better hold value and better appreciate than non-holo rares and bulk. You can see the full analysis at :
I carefully analyzed several forum threads, polls and comment section of YouTube videos to establish popularity of the sets and Base Set does come as a clear winner, followed by Team Rocket. However, I personally cannot justify such a high valuation in comparison to Jungle, Fossil and Team Rocket.
Regarding eBay item 284219943724 that is also discussed now, other than the excess seal on the corners, I would like to draw your attention to the bottom of the box. There are WOTC logos on the bottom of the box. I have looked at hundreds of boxes these past 2 months and this struck me. I verified 12 of the Unlimited Base Set boxes currently auctioned on eBay and confirmed that none had WOTC logos at the bottom. I don’t recall ever seeing that, but I may be wrong and that may not be a sure sign. Also notice that the logos are very crisp, whereas authentic logos will sometime show some fading due to friction with other items. Given how worn out the box is, you certainly should expect fading on the logos. The logos do appear to have the correct translucence. This does look like a counterfeit and honestly a surprisingly good one. It’s alarming.
