Unattainable 1st ed charizard

Merry Christmas all

So I have mostly every char original art they’ve made in the last 2 decades

96, shadowless, unlimited, all the way up to xy and 20yr anv and up, just a ton on OG arts…around 12 diff versions I think I have

I’m missing the most notorious version of the card… That being the very first one in English base set. The king lizardon

Hypothetically if you were me, and went on a mission to find this card in an affordable raw even poor condition, just to complete a collection , where would you start?

Where is the the most affordable option we could find for one of these realistically?

Boring answer, but if I was in your situation I would just save money, bite the bullet and buy a graded one on an auction (hoping for a low last bid). You can always crack the case if you want it for a binder. Finding a raw card is not easy and will probably not be cheaper anyway.

Ebay is showing 7 to 8g minimum for low grade right now with fluctuation rising

Maybe 1st edition charizards are reserved for the Logics and Logan Pauls of the world lol

I knew I should have started a beedrill collection instead

I’d honestly wait a while. PSA still has a massive backlog of cards (I’m still waiting on a submission from the end of May). There have been 126 PSA 6 or lower 1st Edition Charizard cards graded in the past month and we’re eventually going to end up at a point where there are too many of these cards available to meet demand - whether that’s next month or in 2 years time, in my mind it’s something which is inevitably going to happen.

Pokémon’s popularity is through the roof right now, and that’s not going to last forever.

To put that 126 PSA 6 or lower grade number into some perspective, that’s 1/3 of the yearly increase for those grades happening in the past month alone. It really wouldn’t surprise me if we’re looking the same number or higher for the next 3-4 months as well.

How low of a grade are you willing to get?

What Nevyn said will be your best option. There are tons of cards ive come to terms with never being able to afford. It’s all part of collecting, if it was easy it wouldnt be fun.

Do they have lower than 1? I want to finish the puzzle I’m not looking for a gem

True that. Well put

Yeah maybe ill wait out this sellers market we are in. Do you think the price will drop significantly after the hype settles or…?

1, 2, 3s have definitely been falling of late. For $3000 you can almost certainly get something pretty beat up. Expensive, yes, considering, but not Logic levels imo

You mentioned “affordable” twice. What specifically do you mean by that?

Very easy card to hunt honestly. Just wait for a damaged one on auction and bid your max. If you didnt win, repeat. Or find a damaged one for trading

If I were you, I would just wait and save my money…this is not the best moment to hunt that card. Keep watching the market and remember, patience pays.

Well its of course subjective. I’ve never spent over $700 on a card since I started collecting again last year, but I’m pretty new to it. So to answer your question specifically, I could maybe justify financing 3 to 5 grand to finish my charizard collection for a card I really really desire. But to me, even that amount is a crazy price tag just to satisfy a personal hobby where I don’t flip, only collect.

I’m not sure that could even afford a penny sleeve from one of your charizards but its my budget. A 1st ed char just might be unattainable for me right now.

Very true sir thank ya

Were talking about eBay specifically right?

If you can get lucky and find a cosmos Legendary treasures charizard, then grade it in a 10 - I’ll trade a base 1st ed zard for that.

Trades can get you pretty far if you find the right person for your extra stuff.

Where does trading take place?! On e4 here?
I would love deal in trading but I’m only familiar with buying on ebay.

I could make considerable offers in a trade deal I believe. (Sorry, I’m not very experienced as of yet in this arena) please fill me in

You can trade just about anywhere but eBay (dont mention it on messages or that can get you in trouble). Just be careful and check up on the person before doing trades

Interesting thanks man. Are you the real TCA gaming?

I’m sure I dont have anything that would interest you if you are him, but I’m going to look more into trade deals now… I might have a decent play in that regard. Thank ya
