Trying to document the origins of some old TCG flip coins

Yes I’m not sure what coin comes in the other one I’m gonna guess it’ll be cosmos aswell. Mines from the Muk one and it has 2000 on the back.

This was such an awesome thread to read through. @jac2357 the Aerodactyl coin looks gorgeous and happy that a deal was worked out as well. Thanks for the informative thread @stagecoach

Cheers!

I have these, the one on the right side show a little (very little) cosmos. The color is a little more brown(red).

Forget it, found your list and you already have it.
Went through all old coins but didn’t find any not on your initial list.

But where did it come from? Any soecific deck or promotion?

We’re still trying to figure that out, I think.

@Digigu has very kindly agreed to sell me the Eevee coin they found. That makes two members who brought me “new coins” who I am grateful for. Thank you to people who continue to think of me when they come across something unusual.

I have a standing $100 offer on any “new coins” people find. This might seem egregious for something so fringe but I care a lot about procuring and preserving this underappreciated aspect of the TCG. So if you bring me a new coin like jac and Digigu did, I will give you $100 for it on sight.

Do mysterious tokens count? Ive heard some users arent sure what those are for.

Honestly, with how difficult some of these variant coins are to source, your offer is generous but on point. I hope you get to find more obscure collection pieces in the future!

Musings from our friend who discovered it:

I only found this specific coin from the USA.
So I assume it only came on the same set as the other Eevee coins.
It opens the possibility of a Eevee mirror holofoil and old wotc back existing.
Having the old wotc back appears on these Eevee coins may also make possible for older coins to have kept the same back, for example the vileplume coin. But that as yet to be confirmed as no coin as be seen yet

When I have the coin in hand I will do a write up about it and the differences. But I agree with Digigu, I think this opens the door to more coins with “old backs” compared to the revised backs used on most coins.

WotC coins were very cheap, they are basically just stickers on a cardboard base. Old bases could have still been used to produce coins until the supply ran out, resulting in undocumented variants based on production runs.
