I think we can do better than the 12-15% fees we see from the main trading platform.
At the higher end especially, those fees really add up. I mostly deal with $250-2000 cards but can only imagine what these fees look like for those that sell 10k plus cards. also, In my limited experience seller protection is very limited, and all advantages go to buyer
Seeing fanatics come in around 6% is awesome, and I hope they keep pushing the competition - but surrendering your cards into a single platform ecosystem that is still relatively small is a big commitment
i’ve been working on what a more collector aligned selling model would look like, and think I have an idea that could challenge the system.
I wanted to see if other people see the same problems as I do, before I get too serious about this. Does the current fee structure seem acceptable to you, or do you think there is an opportunity for improvement? Anyone on here use fanatics as their main source of selling?
I’m assuming this is targeted towards eBay? I personally have no problem paying the fees since they usually do a pretty good job protecting sellers from malicious or difficult buyers. Plus I know my item is going to be getting the discoverability it needs vs putting it onto any other platform.
I’m pretty happy with eBay. They have the largest buyer pool and can get the best price for your cards. Cards $250+ have Authenticity Guarantee which is fantastic. Consigners like zandg have such good rates for higher end cards. Utilizing them right now is great since auctions are ending higher than ever since we’re in a growing period. I’m sure there are ways to improve eBay, but it’s better than it’s ever been right now.
I also have quite a bit of cards at Fanatics and sell every so often. I’m pretty happy with them other than how easy it is for someone to falsely purchase high end cards in Buy Now and have to wait multiple weeks to get the item back in my Vault.
I don’t see how anyone can compete with any of the big marketplaces in the United States. Probstein tried and failed so quick it was laughable.
Fees drop to next to nothing for any dollar amount over $2500 (think they are sub 3%), so really eBay is a great place to sell higher dollar cards as you can actually net more than Fanatics
Would be cool if the vaults would have the ability to turn some cards in your vault visable to the public. People can make trade offers in real time. The vault could take a small fee for ownership transfer.
Obviously you could pick which slabs are “for trade/sale” so cards you don’t want visable stay hidden in the vault.
