Tough Pills to Swallow in Pokemon

As I get older, I find myself less interested/able to spend money on this hobby. I find myself re-evaluating large purchases and instead investing that money in things for my kids in the future. I.E college funds/investment funds for them etc. One day, I will sell all my cards and use that money on my kids & their future

People buying things you don’t like at prices you find unreasonable doesn’t automatically make it a bubble.

E series i’m good. Something like base set? Nah, those stock images are boring.

e series doesn’t “feel” vintage to me. in my mind, if something “feels” vintage, that just means it looks outdated.

art really stepped into the place it is now during e series when so many new artists were brought into main sets. afterwards it has just been expanding to more and more impressive levels.

yeah there are some nice arts even going back to base set, even if they’re few and far between, but the true diversity didn’t really take off until e series imo (internationally at least)

Modern Japanese is quickly becoming a money pit for no real reason
Modern English is printed into oblivion, and as such, is finally starting to become affordable.
Market manipulation is 1000% real

You’re pretty sick, Chubbs.

the reason is simple tbh

I think anything wotc is vintage. Ex is starting to get there now but not there yet in my opinion

I agree that it is vintage. I’m just saying e series doesn’t feel vintage.

greed?

Japanese is a quality product that has limited means to meet increasing demand. English is more heavily mass printed to meet demand.

Given these factors, not really surprised Japanese is seeing price increases. I suppose people are finally realizing that being able to read a card doesn’t matter as much for collection purposes if the card isn’t of a great quality.

Owning Japanese trophy cards does not make one superior to others in the hobby and their perception as the apex is ultimately a societal construct once monetary value is removed from the equation. People will find value in different niches of the hobby, whether it be cheap or expensive cards, items with history behind them or mass-produced products. Both are perfectly acceptable.

This perception of “high” and “low” culture isn’t exclusive to the Pokemon card hobby. It’s prevalent in many visual media (film, animation, video games) or fine art circles.

Unpopular opinion but if I had this kind of money I would one hundred percent wear both of these.

Got to see the illustrator in person at the national
