I do collect the variants- someone I play with pulled it last week and I traded for it. I wasnt expecting anything in prize pack series 3 since both torterra & grotle were in series 2, but Im not complaining.

Congrats on the pickups! The poster is especially really cool. I always love looking through your collection thread, since a lot of the Sinnoh starter cards overlap with promo releases and what sets they’re in, there’s just something about seeing those counterparts to cards I’m already extremely familiar with all together that’s especially awe-striking.

Thank you, and agreed! The sinnoh starter releases are super neat, especially the japanese dp-era stuff (like the play and meiji promos). I only wish they were as consistent with the trio in modern- I was expecting more sinnoh starter love for year 3 swsh, cant complain about turtwig from cz/vstar but legends arceus stuff took over year 3 for sure. Also, I love looking through your spreadsheet ngl, if I ever decide to fully commit to getting every language turtwig/grotle/torterra I will be able to follow your guide pretty closely, so thank you for putting together something so comprehensive!

Definitely! DP-era is by far my favorite, and I love looking back at the promo releases during that time. Play! and Card Exchange promos gave us gorgeous cosmos variants of set cards, and the Meiji promos (especially work that didn’t get an English release) are a lovely as well.
I agree on the Y3 SWSH being taken over by Legends Arceus. We got some gorgeous Dawn/Akari art from it though, so I can’t complain too much. I have high hopes for the next few modern sets since Sinnoh has returned in the new SCVI dlc though!

Seeing any set card get a holo variant gives me life, Im so glad japan did that throughout DP.
Fingers crossed! It’s about that time in this generation (2nd/3rd year sets) where we see more Sinnoh so I certainly wont complain for some extra sinnoh action.
Absolutely! I am super fortunate that our mons are in the same starter pool haha- I was originally going to stick to just english so I think it’s only a matter of time before I get bored and go all in for every language. Best of luck to you as well in finishing your collection!

I respect that a lot, which set did you use for the evo line?
What makes a simp? I’ve been asking myself this very question ever since I rejoined the hobby in 2020. Surely it’s someone who is infatuated with a given thing. In pop culture, this usually refers to people foaming at the mouth over e-girls.
But what about a torterra simp?
Well I would think it’s someone who is head over heels about the sinnoh tortoise, willing to sacrifice their finances for said tortoise.
For awhile, I saw no issue with this title. I love Torterra. I get ALL of the turtle cameos, even the ones where you have to squint your eyes and zoom in 500x just to see a spec of turtwig’s head.
But deep inside I knew that the title was fraudulent. I had only set my eyes on the english masterset, japanese holographic torterras + promos, and language exclusive promos- COMPLETELY leaving out the other languages.
Well, enough is enough, if I am to call myself THE torterrasimp, then I better start acting like it. And 2025 is the year that my collection finally branches out to every language, collecting every variant. No more half-assing other languages, no more cutesie one-off purchases of an s9 korean torterra, just whole-hearted commitment to Torterra and nothing less.
Is it going to suck having a seemingly empty binder compared to my “complete” one now? Without a doubt. But victory is going to be that much sweeter once this puppy is filled out.
Now, with all that being said, today was an exciting mail day!
My fellow sinnoh collector @citriina sent me a DP2 Fossil excavator to help get this party started, and included an awesome signature card to go along with it. I am eternally grateful for your contribution!
I also had 2 other packages arrive today: The Korean BW7 line and the 2nd print of the SM5+ set!
One last thing for the folks still reading- I have created my own spreadsheet to track everything (inspired by the grail spreadsheet owner @citriina ). For those curious in tracking my progress I will leave the link here! It’s a work in progress so it’ll probably go through a few more design changes.
