Hi all! Welcome to my collection thread for Tropius. Tropius has been my favorite Pokemon ever since I first saw it as a kid. Unlike most people’s first experiences encountering Tropius on Route 119, I first saw it in a kid’s PC box in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Convinced it was a legendary Pokemon because I had never encountered one in my 400 hours of gameplay, I traded my exclusive event Shaymin for it. Best trade EVER.
I created an E4 account after seeing the incredible collections and documentations other species collectors here were doing. I figured this would be the perfect place to catalog my own collection and connect with other species collectors! I’ll be updating this thread relatively frequently to catch up with the cards and items I already have, but also new additions.
While I don’t think I can afford EVERY Tropius item out there, I can’t wait to collect what I can! Many items I have questions about, so please chime in if you know the origin story of some of them! Thanks for you help and I hope you enjoy~!
Excited to see it! Always love the wild and wacky things species collectors find. And Tropius is neat! If I recall correctly they don’t have a ton of cards so curious where you are seeking challenge - max rarity, non tcg, merch? All fun avenues to explore. I think every single species collection can pose an engaging and fun challenge!
Thanks for taking an interest! I’m looking for literally ANYTHING related to Tropius. I’ll upload it here soon, but I already have all of the English TCG cards in all of their respective variants. I’m collecting the other languages for TCG a little slower to just enjoy the process, but have some of the harder ones out of the way such as Polish and Russian (sadly not reverse holos!).
One of my favorite parts of my collection is actually the art I’ve been gifted or have commissioned. Every piece is one of a kind, and I think it’s what makes it stand out! I can’t wait to share those too~
Tropius cards were the very first cards that brought me back into collecting. Super cheap, and super cute! Here is my complete English TCG collection. First I have the reverse holos, then regular commons. On the final page you’ll see stamped variants and miscuts. I will highlight these in a different post (once I paint my nails!).
These pages are NOT updated for 30th anniversary yet! I have to do a long overdo binder reorganization, so stay tuned for updated pictures in the future.
Promos and Stamps
Tropius has had two promo cards in English, one for Mysterious Treasures pre-release, and one for the 2013-14 season. Both have Staff stamped variants. I particularly love the crosshatch holo on the Nationals promo!
Japanese TCG has a lot to collect with the 1st Ed/Unlimited split variants, so I am very casually working my way through it. I completed English Tropius rather quickly a few years back, so I am savoring a slow and budget friendly collection now! I will be updating my binder to leave room for the cards I’m missing soon once I design a cute placeholder for the missing spots.
Chinese, both Simplified and Traditional, has been seemingly hard for me to find. All of these cards are thanks to a friend of a friend who happened to be able to dig through bulk in China for me. I would feel bad asking for help again… so here’s where the Chinese language collection stands for now!
Tao Ti Promo - Traditional Chinese
This promo was released in collaboration with Tao Ti in Hong Kong in 2024. A random TCG promo card (Tropius, Bounsweet, Exeggutor) per 2 drinks purchased. I don’t know if this was released unsleeved or in a plastic seal, but it would be neat to find a sealed one if they exist!
– Gramedia Stamped Promo - Indonesian
In November 2021, Pokemon collaborated with Toko Buku Gramedia Bookstores to release a TCG card with purchase. Gramedia continued to collaborate with Pokemon for TCG promo releases through 2022 for a total of 5 releases, so check to see if your favorite Pokemon has one of these stamped promos! This specific November release featured Shellder, Cloyster, Wobbuffet, Galarian Zapdos, Galarian Moltres, Skarmory, and Bagon.
Vuala Sealed Promo - Spanish
In 2023, Pokemon collaborated with Mexican snack brand Vualá to release promo cards. A random card could be found in packages of Vualá Sorpresa, a type of sweet pastry with flavored fillings. Besides the individually sealed cards and backing card, there’s nothing unique about the Pokemon card itself. It lacks a stamp or anything identifiable when it’s removed from the package. I actually have quite a few of these besides Tropius, and it was a rather large set.
I had the honor of meeting TCG artist, Jerky, at the Pokemon World Championships in 2026! I was able to tell him about my attempt to collect every language of his Tropius AR/IR artwork. However, I was bummed to see there was no representation of his Tropius art at the TCG art museum display at Worlds alongside almost every other card art he’s illustrated… Here’s my progress so far!
Aka anything that’s small and flat but not a traditional trading card game card! Can be stickers, poker cards, or anything of the like.
Amadas
I was recently gifted my first Amadas from a friend (thanks Matt if you ever read this!). I honestly don’t know ANYTHING about Amadas except Ensky makes them now…? I would love to be more educated about them, so if someone could fill me in I’d appreciate it! For now all I know is that I don’t have all of them, and this website is really helpful. Although, I wish it had pictures to really figure out which is which.
The bottom left is NOT an Amada (thanks @Quuador for the info!) and it’s a National Picture Book Pro seal, another collectable sticker line produced by Nintendo. I love older 3D models and renders, so I think this whole series is very charming.
Thank you! This is just the tip of the iceberg! While I’d love to post everything tonight, I want to take much better pictures when its brighter outside and my nails look nice to really focus on some of my favorite cards and items. I think it will take a while to catalog everything! Also shout out Armaldo in your signature, they’re one of my favs <3
Thank you! Unfortunately my warm overhead lights are making the green not very pretty… eventually I will replace all of these pictures to really show off how pretty everything is once I get to reorganizing it!
Finally someone else in the world that likes ole’ banana beard! I had one on my OG ruby version team and used him to frankly poor effect through the whole game. But tropius is one of the most out there, unique and odd and fun designs. Its like a sort of homage to Exeggutor I think, but a lot more charming.
I’m a fan of species collectors. Good luck on the journey. See if you can’t get some weird messed up stamp version of the pre-release tropius from rising rivals. Sometimes they will have the drop shadow printed on them, but the gold stamp was never applied. I’ve seen it on other cards from the time using the same technique.
Omg I have seen drop shadows without text on other cards, like the Destiny Deoxys stamped promo, but never on a Tropius! Will keep a look out thank you!! See this is why I love this site. I think I know all there is to know about the English cards, and then find something new!
And yes… Tropius is best used as an HM slave in games but did great against Steven in ORAS for me <3
Okay so now I don’t know if I was misremembering it as the ivysaur prerelease card from crystal guardians, but I swear it was a tropius card or two that someone posted on the forums somewhere and the foil stamp part was stamped at a totally wrong part of the card. I don’t know. But I started from the end of the Show Off Your Error Cards Megathread! - #943 by Throwingknifekiller thread, and scrolled all the back to this spot in the thread and didn’t see tropius, so I think I must have seen it on someone’s collection thread somewhere, which makes the search far more interesting. Search bar is your friend. But it may have been that ivysaur and I’m misremembering.
Haha no worries! I’m sure an error version of it exists SOMEWHERE. I always think the Nationals promo Tropius has an error drop shadow for the staff version, but it’s just a shadow in the card art right where the stamp goes. I’ll keep my eyes peeled still. I love error cards!
Traditional Chinese seems to be such a pain to find in general. I know for my SC I’ve only found 2 cards in T-Chinese so good on ya for being able to find this many!
(Looking again, I see they are S-Chinese, not T-Chinese, still no less awesome though!)
I do know about this website with pictures, although it unfortunately doesn’t contain all of them.
To save you the trouble, it looks like you’re missing these two:
And the bottom left one is a National picture Book Pro sticker. I assume the back looks something like this (but with a different name/number, since this is the Seviper from my own collection):
And awesome collection! Tropius is such an amazing Pokémon.
And although it seems like he hasn’t been online anymore for quite some time and possibly stopped collecting, I’m sure @tropiustodd would also very much appreciate this collection as a fellow Tropius-collector.
