Thank you so much for you help with the Amandas! And yes I know Todd through Instagram, he helped me find out about a random overseas promo I didn’t know existed!

## TCG Cards

**Miscuts and Misprints**

Some of the coolest cards to collect are errors! I think they give insights into the TCG production process, but also what can go wrong. Luckily, most Tropius errors I’ve seen have been relatively affordable.

**Off-Center Miscuts**

Love seeing an alignment dot on these!

**Square Corner(s)**
I actually pulled the Pitch Black reverse holo myself! While it BARELY has a square upper right corner, it counts 😉

 ![Square](https://efour.b-cdn.net/uploads/default/original/4X/1/0/5/1054fa8bd7bab9e477269d2409305561f752c00e.jpeg)

While I know there’s eBay listings for several other errors, such as a crimp cut that I’m missing representation of, they’re more fun to find from friends! Patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity to add more to this collection.

Always fun to see all the bits and bobs that collecting everything of a single species might entail. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing further updates!

Great collection! Tropius is a really great Pokémon. I’ve always loved encountering them in Emerald. Also, love seeing a fellow Hoenn species collector! Seconding the love for the green binder page color, which matches Tropius really well. Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Adhi

## “Cards” but not cards

**Poker Cards**

There are quite a few different sets of official poker/playing cards Pokemon has made or given the licensing for! I think 30 up through generation 6, but correct me if I’m wrong. To my knowledge, Tropius has been featured on two.

1.) 2006 Pokemon Center 10th Anniversary Poker Set
Four decks were made to celebrate Pokemon’s 10th anniversary and released at Pokemon centers: blue, yellow, red, and green. They featured all generation 1-3 Pokemon, and Tropius is featured in the yellow deck. I think it’s cool to see Tropius alongside other single stage/basic (at the time) Pokemon! At the time of buying this slab, it was POP 1 in a PSA10, Now there’s 3! I believe this was a Japan only release at Pokemon Centers.

2.) 2003 Ruby/Sapphire Poker Decks
You guessed it, these decks featured the Pokemon of Hoenn as a Japanese exclusive release! Tropius got its own card here as the Queen of Clubs, and was part of the Groudon deck. Pretty cool to be up there with Rayquaza, the King of Clubs in one of the decks.

## Graded TCG Cards

While I’m not a huge supporter of grading cards, I bought most of these years ago before some of the insight into not-so-nice business practices were brought to the surface. Still, they’re nice collection pieces to have! The SV Base Reverse Holo Tropius was POP1 for a very long time, but now POP2. I actually tried grading a 10 myself of many of these cards 2-3 years ago, and failed miserably… so now I use the resulting 8s as my table coasters, haha I don’t think any of these cards hold crazy value, but it is neat to have my favorite Tropius card, Forina’s Tropius, in pristine condition.

I think these conclude my traditional TCG collection! ✨

## Figures

**Bandai Full Color Advanced “Footprint” Figure Gachapon**

Now that is a MOUTHFUL, but these Bandai figures released as gacha in 2004 are more commonly just called “footprint” figures. I had seen this Tropius figure several times without the stand included not knowing it existed, so when I saw one in tact WITH the paper insert featuring some Dex information including the footprint, I was sold. Footprints remind me of the footprint ribbon you could collect with high friendship in Diamond and Pearl, and my childhood Tropius had one!

They released the entire 3rd generation which you can find the full set [here](https://pkmncollectors.livejournal.com/24666728.html). Some Pokemon don’t have footprints, so some other imprint of a body part (i.e. a fin from Wailord) was used instead. I think there was also some representation of generation 1 and 2, since this was during FRLG era.

This is exactly where grading should be IMHO. Grade/obtain cards and items that matter to you regardless of the larger market or their potential value. Refreshing to see!

Also love the larger green aesthetic of this collection. Looking forward to more of your collection.

## “Cards” but not cards

**Hanafuda - 2016 Mario and Pikachu Set**

This was one of the first slabs I ever bought. The first time I saw a hanafuda card, I thought it was some fan-made thing. It was the first, and last, time I ever saw a Tropius hanafuda raw… I regret not spending that $15 A LOT. However, this slab has been such a great conversation piece for my collection I can’t complain!

Hanafuda, or “flower cards” because of the floral motifs, are playing cards that were used as a sneaky substitute for widely recognized playing cards when there were strict anti-gambling laws starting around the 1600s and ending in the 1800s when hanafuda were popularized. The designs on these cards were constantly changing so they couldn’t be easily recognized as playing cards.

Nintendo actually started as a playing card manufacturer in the 1800s specializing in hanafuda, but were also the first to mass manufacture western-style poker cards to release in Japan. Nintendo makes hanafuda sets with their current IPs as an homage to their origins, and there have been two Pokemon sets: 2016 Mario and Pikachu, and a 2013 Kanto set. I think the Tropius one is gorgeous and while I’d love to have more of these in my collection, they’re so hard to find as raw cards and quite expensive for some of the more popular Pokemon!

**2021 “My 386” Pokemon Center Campaign Sticker**

In 2021, Pokemon Centers in Japan held a promotional sticker gift for the release of the Hoenn sitting cutie plushies (or Pokemon Fit plush in Japan) as part of the “Me and My Partner” campaign. You received a sticker by sharing a picture on Twitter of a Pokemon Fit Plush made with an Icon Maker on the campaign’s website with the hashtag #My386 and showed the post to Pokemon Center staff. You can still search this hashtag on Twitter/X today and see all of the cute posts! It seems like there was also a “My151” campaign too prior to this release.

Here’s my submission to #My386 a few years late!

## “Cards” but not cards

**Topsun Advanced Action**

Topsun Advanced Action cards, or this style of card featuring two Pokemon in battle, started with the original 151 Pokemon. Hoenn Pokemon were finally featured starting in the 6th series, which included Tropius! Series 7 had 3D versions of these cards, and I’m so glad I picked this one up when I did at a card show. The art is just so funny to me, especially since one of my friend’s favorite Pokemon is Gardevior. I’ve never seen this card on eBay since then in its series 7 print, and I definitely want to get a cheap pair of 3D glasses to look at it. I know I’m still missing the Claydol vs Tropius card!

If you’re interested in learning more about these Topsun cards, @bbobrob has [this awesome article about them](https://www.elitefourum.com/t/topsun-top-battle-versus-vs-card-resource/41643)!
