Groudon update

Hidden Legends Groudon being as much as #038 was last year is a crime. Ugliest groudon in existence.

Also this card being 4k is a crime, also incredibly ugly

I’d take the CG over the Gold Star any day.

I know most of the focus is on high end/vintage here but 151 singles have gone absolutely nuclear over the past month. Everything down to the illustration rares has shot up around 50% or more. Pure FOMO, these prices make no sense imo. These cards are not rare in the slightest.

Blastoise ex is probably the poster child of this upswing, going from ~$80 to ~$220 in about 3 weeks.

Last year, or the year before I checked out for like 9 months because of this kind of shit.

It’s truly a testament to how fast general sentiment can change in this hobby and how much of an outsized impact talking heads on youtube can have on the market.

One moment no one is buying at $80 and the next moment $80 was way too undervalued and $150 was the rightful price all along. Then from there pure hype/euphoria kicks in and somehow you’re looking at $220 like how did we get here.

It’s to the point with modern where once a certain segment of the market latches onto an idea they essentially force it to become true, a self-fulfilling prophecy. And people just eat it up for fear of missing out.

Wtf, it wasn’t a few weeks, it was a few days…

I sold a PSA 9 Venusaur and Blastoise last week for a fraction of what they are currently going for…

time to sell ur reverse holos for more than the last public sales of holos

fanatics auction is currently 25k (inclusive with buyer premium). i like to think someone thought this was a normal holo.

It’s the same bloody song and dance each and every time.

“Oh, this normally unremarkable card is up for auction somewhere…but it’s a PSA 10”

“What a surprise! That same card just sold for a record-breaking price that’s 5x the previous sale price somewhere else”

“Gee, would you look at that. Now the card that was up for auction is also being bidded up to that last sale price because that /must/ be market price! Whooooaaaaa!”

When will people learn…

I should clarify, this one is at 25k atm

so wondering if someone thought the reverse was the holo

maybe the investor bros don’t know the difference

Realistically do these prices just keep going up? I thought prices two years ago were a lot compared to 2020 and in 2020 compared to 2018.

At what point does it all come back down? Or does it never come down? Pokémon is out pacing comics, coins, sports cards etc.

Every cycle reworks what people thought was normal or rational. Each cycle attracts more attention, brings in more money, and further distorts the relationship between supply and demand. Each cycle also reinvents the image of the hahbee in the eyes of the Oldboy establishment, and financial behaviour mirrors this. The idea of moderate organic price inflation ended in 2019. Seasons are changing much more quickly and the landscape will look very different again by the end of 2028.

Not exactly english, but how do people figure out if something is over exposed in the scan vs sun damage? Any second opinions here?

I look at the PSA label to see if it’s overexposed too. In this case, the card itself looks pretty faded.

Thats pretty normal for the non-english/european language Tropical Tidal Wave cards. The borders especially are a lighter shade of yellow, along with the rest of the card appearing white washed.

I’ve seen some that are the same color as english cards, but more often I see this.
