Hi all,
I’m trying to estimate some cards on whether to grade them or not.
I have a large number of Deoxys holos and reverse holos. The cards seem to be all broadly plagued by the same issues which is silvering on almost all cards but no surface scratches, dents etc. Essentially looks like what everyone says the problem with Ex Deoxys was which was poor silvering.
What allowance / consideration do PSA give with this issue? I don’t want to send entire sets only for everything to come back as PSA 7s / 8s but like jungle set, I have struggled to understand how they factor this silvering in.
Most are minimal around the edges but find it strange given silvering is much more noticeable then a single white dot on the back of a card which causes a perfect card to go from 10 to 9 but there are silvering on jungle 10s, and for deoxys the sets rare although I do see on eBay quite a few silvered 10s too.
Thanks

You should post a couple pics of them. Sometimes it’s better to sell raw and you can make a little more if you avoid the grading fees. But they also could be worth grading. Impossible to say without knowing which cards they are and how they look
Just speaking as someone who’s graded hundreds of cards that didn’t end up gaining value. For cards like this people like me would pay above NM raw prices to get decent copies raw

Thanks - here’s some examples , I have:
85 holos and reverse rares
73 uncommon/common reverses
19 trainer and energy reverses
177 Ex deoxys holos total
All look “pack fresh” straight into sleeves , yet to be filtered for corner wear / bad centering although no surface scratches on any I have seen, it’s the silvering on the edges I’m unsure on.

Dang those are extremely nice! It’s been a while since I graded deoxys with PSA specifically but they look really nice to me. I know sometimes they’ll look at factory wear differently than other wear though. If it were me I’d probably still try it, though I wouldn’t be expecting to make much stonk
As someone who also loves ex holos a lot I decided to look into it. ex deoxys holos in PSA 9 (which should be the expected/hope for grade) are really not getting premiums ATM. In fact most ex era Holo rares in 9s don’t see very heafty premiums. Though PSA will obviously still be the biggest premium
Just looking them up quickly using Gyarados as an example:
52$ raw
15$ grading plus shipping add like 3$ if it gets a 9 it is
106$ before eBay fees and shipping again.
It’s just a tough market for truly special cards like those are from the crappiest QA set English has
Let us know what you decide to do with them! I’m very curious

I recently graded 171 ex era reverses with some holos. Mostly all Mint. Was really hoping for at least 20% PSA 10. Ended up being one of my worst submissions.
5 PSA 6
40 PSA 7
53 PSA 8
60 PSA 9
13 PSA 10
Maybe I had a harsh grader or maybe ex era just doesn’t have the best condition even straight out the pack. I actually have another smaller submission with some of the same cards that are being graded right now. Hoping it will be different, but not getting my hopes up.

Just finally heard back from PSA for anyone curious about an official answer - they said that they wouldn’t even accept a card that has been separated in any way. So wouldn’t even authenticate it
Hi all,
This one return is bugging me , I’ve never cracked a card before once graded but I just cannot see why this got a PSA 4, another got a 5 which is also strange.
The only possible thing I can see is they are considering these cards bent ? / warped? I can’t see any flaws and was expecting PSA 8s minimum on all of them.
I know an indent causes it to go to PSA 6, what causes an otherwise flawless card to go to a 4?
I’ve included the backs of the 2 in question, these are all from the same binder I purchased and likely were pulled straight from packs and into sleeves.

There may be a small crease that you missed, or its possible the PSA grader thought they saw something and quickly moved on rather than investigate (I believe an average of 30ish seconds is spent per card, so mistakes can definitely be made). Once you get them in hand, look over them and if you don’t see anything, crack and regrade. If they come back again as 4/5’s, you are missing something.
I graded my complete packfresh reverse LC set.
It’s on the way back to me.
2 x 10
36 x 9
64 x 8
5 x 7
3 x 6
As expected average getting an 8.
I simply want my sets graded in sequence so I have to go with whatever I get back.
LC was the second set I shipped.
Ruby Sapphire and HGSS is also being graded, also those reverses are difficult.

Posted on Reddit but didn’t get much traction so posting here; hopefully can get some advice before I send it out to grade
Basically would it be worth it if I’m only aiming for PSA 10?
I measured and its centering is still 55/45, but I noticed top right border is slightly ‘narrower’ than top left, so unsure if that’ll affect my grade.
I ‘believe’ that should be the only imperfection; will also get the card professionally cleaned so no dust or fingerprint issue.
Any advice is much appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to e4!
The PSA 10 rate for this card is pretty high, so you have a good chance at a 10 if front centering is the only visible issue. That said, most graded ultramodern cards are only differentiated by centering, so submitting imperfectly centered cards will inherently increase your PSA 9 rate.

Im always curious what happened when I see so many 2,3,4 grades on an ultramodern card lol

Don’t have it “cleaned” . . . that’s against PSA’s policies and is subject to refusal if they detect it. Celebrations Charizard has a very high Gem Rate already, and this one looks pretty good.

I would bet some of it is trying to intentionally get a 1. As you can see in the above screenshot, 1’s provide quite the premium.
1s are very easy to get if you are willing to mutilate your cards. 2-4 are kinda impossible to get on purpose lol
Idk about that. From what I’ve seen, the line between a 1 and authentic grade is pretty thin and subjective. I can totally see people being too cautious about what damage they cause to the card.
But this doesn’t describe every 2-4 lol

Anyone elses PSA submissions mega delayed right now? I’m about to hit my ‘estimated completion date’ and I don’t even have the pre-scans yet.
Very weird, I’ve been submitting every 2 weeks since April and until this submission, every single one has been within a 5-6 week turnaround time
edit: to be clear, I mean ‘mega-delayed’ compared to the TAT we’ve seen this past 6 months or so

I use a middleman in the UK. Sent some in at the start of October.
The tcg element was speedy, fastest yet.
The non tcg I put in at the same time has been in assembly for 3 weeks. No idea what that means or why.

Does anybody know if you can set a minimum grade on just raw submissions or if you can refuse an up charge and PSA send back raw non graded card? Specifically wanting to submit a moonbreon but don’t want to get up charged like $100 for an 8/9 and would rather have it back raw.
I’ve been sitting in Order Received for 16 days now for the September Pokémon Grading Special. Every other special last year and this year took only a week max to move into R&ID. It’s still early but I don’t have high hopes.
I wonder if they got mass volume after doing the $13 special? The special this month is a lot more lackluster than what we previously had so there’s no doubt a backlog.
PSA also reached a new monthly record high for the year 2024.
