Yep! Just to note this one does have a savings cap, whereas the one earlier this summer did not.

Yes this time the cap is 10000 Yen per purchase.

Despite the nerf, it’s still incredibly game-breaking for low to mid value items. For example, getting 8,000 yen off something that costs 40,000 yen is a massive savings.

Too bad it’s only for today, but I did use it to snag this pop 8 beauty so I’m happy

I’ve bought so many old back PSA 9/10 cards with these 20% off coupons in the past, it’s insane when grading is $15 per card and you can get a PSA 9 holo for $25 or less…

Picked up this guy for $220 after the discount. It does have a crease through it but I’ve always wanted this card and 0 urge to grade it means it can actually stay in my binder stress free

And… it looks beautiful!!!

What is going on with Graded cards in Japan right now? Many cases like this on japanese sites where PSA 10 are going cheaper than raw…

I heard fake PSA 10s exist in Japan. But idk if they fix that problem. Market is weird tbh

At least one factor besides the fakes and large graded supply from the hype for steadily available cards might be that - this shortly after grading being introduced for the first time really - Japan already experienced a huge price bubble for certain slabs.

Might be a “Telekom effect”, where that stock entered the market, was hyped, many first timers bought it during the one peak it ever got, got burned, sold and never touched any stock for a long time.
For many, trust in graded cards might need some extra time now.

These prices are dictated by Card Rush which is by far the biggest store making the buy backs in Japan. There was a rumor, that since PSA grading is more on subjectivity by a grader, Card Rush stated that a PSA 10 does not automatically qualify for their highest premium and raw card will still fetch a higher premium if Card Rush deems it so (hypothetical strong PSA 10), even if the card is not graded.

The other theory is that Card Rush already has accumulated a large supply of PSA 10 which they acquired via buy backs and just wants to get rid of the stock so they are enticing buyers with a cheaper PSA 10 compared to a raw card value which is ridiculously priced to begin with.

This is just grapevine talks so I have no evidence to back it up.

Cheers!

Interesting… Thanks for adding some context! Makes sense to me.

Can’t imagine PSA has a very good reputation in Japan now.

According to an account on here, the JP market was not really a collector one until recently, and even then that may have been driven by the skyrocketing, manipulated prices of Magi and the like instead of any real collecting desire.

So not only do they experience a bubble both of raw and graded cards but their stores grade graded cards to determine what kind of surcharge there is - would definitely make people lose interest and trust in grading/PSA.

Man this thread turned conspiracy. :upside_down_face:

Japanese people knew about psa for a decade. They would use the scale at worlds to rate their cards. They just never had direct access to grading until recently. That’s a big reason why psa prices aren’t as established.

Also raw cards selling more than graded is nothing new. I’ve mentioned this for years now. The factors are mainly PSA being less established, because it wasn’t available until recently, along with buyers preferring “Japan only” or what best fits their buying process.
I’m not surprised at all that a raw beauty goods card from an established store outsells a psa 10 sold by a random mercari seller.

This is pretty fascinating. Its so opposite here where the PSA 10 holds a premium over the raw but I guess that makes a lot of sense many collectors there haven’t gotten into PSA and are probably still doing what they’ve always done buying raw cards from trusted sources. One thing I really appreciate about the Japanese is they overall are more careful on quality and more strict. Whereas in the US it seems like 99% of raw cards have wear the seller would never disclose.

I’m still waiting on Japanese-language PSA labels for it to really become something mainstream. You still don’t see PSA in places like Book-Off and Surugaya.

How rare is this? I’m not talking about graded copies, but just in general. Is this a common error?
