Yea i think i just need to mentally check out of modern for a little bit. Things are gettin way too wet n wild. I feel like a werewolf when the night of a full moon is approaching; the chaos-fomo moon is almost upon us and idk if i can control the poke-blood-lust

I feel that everyone thinks that the current modern prices, especially for Japanese modern is currently overhyped and inflated. I can’t tell if this is entirely hype or market manipulation but there is definitely more modern collectors nowadays post 2020.
Majority of them are exposed to SWSH era cards first, with most of them having no connection or nostalgia towards the vintage cards. Most of their chase cards will likely be modern alt arts, hence the high prices recently.
Just my thoughts.

From what I’ve heard, Japanese collectors got deep pockets and do not mess around. I think theres a ton of international attention coming into JP markets and the supply cant keep up with foreign demand. Japanese people just pay what they need to pay to get the card and so, the card prices are just like “lol see ya.”
Idk how that relates to the vintage market (if at all), but theres definitely some moderately alarming price activity going on in modern. May be some arbitrage opportunity

Right. Many and majority of the new collectors probably see the more popular Alt arts like moonbreon as their collection grail, not vintage/trophy cards that are more for seasoned collectors. I could be wrong though, just trying to justify the spike in prices recently.

It’s often said that there are many ways to take part in the hobby and this could be the newest one. People with little/no nostalgia of old sets and with arguably the best art the hobby has seen.

I now feel the pain english collectors must have gone through in 2020/2021. On the bright side lots of good vintage/niche stuff is still very affordable, or at least a lot more justifiable when comparing to modern.
To take prices retracing back to normal for english supply increased a LOT, whether out of people’s closets or off the printers. Does anyone who follows japanese media know if something similar’s happening over there with influencers, speculators, blatant pumping by stores etc.
What’ll it take for prices to retrace like they did with english? Seems like right now people are just banking on demand lowering rather than supply increasing like the case with english.

I’m just accepting a risk of missing-out. For me, FoMo is more a FoGo (Fear of Getting on). I will risk that in 5-10 years, modern and early modern will not have dropped to reasonable prices, as the collectors/investors today move-on or need to sell. I’ll wager that they will (the former for japanese, the latter for English).

Did anyone apply for the last Paradigm Trigger lottery and get the results yet? The email says the result was due on the 31st of October with delivery expected from Nov 8th, but I didn’t get a email or anything which is weird considering they are always on time with these things. Must be a particularly “strict” lottery or something?
I know as soon I post this message I will probably get the result email though lol
