日本のマーケット部分 The Giant Japanese Market Thread

I would argue that we are at another precipice where highly exclusive and valuable Japanese cards have been syphoned so much out of Japan the cards are more valuable in the Japan market than outside. (Oga Booga (Supply < Demand Chart) go figure)

This caught my interest first when looking at purchasing 151 sealed boxes in 2024-2025. The prices were actually cheaper in the US compared to the Japanese sources. And not even by a little bit, the price differences were huge from $150 in the US compared to $210+ in Japan and even from bulk sellers on IG importing from Japan. (before the whole tariff situation)

This maybe common sense for some, but it is a really interesting pattern I have noticed now with graded cards. To the point where a card like the 15th Anniversary Pikachu (POP 950+ in PSA 10) is going for $18K+ in Japan with very little listings on Japanese websites compared to BIN’s on eBay of $13-15K and recently solds near $10K. It seems the international buying from Chinese and Japanese buyers is happening again such as during the Japanese bubble of 2022-2023. From selling on eBay at the time, 70% of packages were shipping directly to China, Japan, or Hong Kong.

Although this is an obvious increase in demand due to the 30th anniversary, some similar cards are now going for higher prices in Japan than the US. It is funny to think more than likely there are Japanese resellers booking flights to the US to buy up as many cards as possible here to then fly back and resell in Tokyo. Just how American Pokémon resellers fly to Japan to do this exact thing. The every 3 years UNO Reverse card :clockwise_vertical_arrows:

Regardless, just another day in the hobby during a boom period.
