The first Secret Rare was the Dark Raichu in the Team Rocket set, which was released on April 24th, 2000.
Hey Guys, does anyone here have a list of the Pokemon League/ play stamped cards from diamond and pearl to hgss? Iām trying to track them down
The Plasma Lugia really is my final straw. I donāt believe any of these vintage/mid-era sales anymore. I just donāt. Itās NFTs, all over again.
If that card is even a million dollar card, let alone multi million, then every single member of E4 is ludicrously cardboard wealthy and we should all start planning our future yacht purchases.
I didnāt catch the rest, old eyes and all, but this part really resonates with me. Espen Ćino grew up in my backyard, canāt wait to hash out all the details with him in Monaco over caviar and champagne. Not sure I need a helipad but I definitely want the flexxiest swimming pool.
Iām so rich Iām going to throw stupid money into PokĆ©mon cards after selling off all my stupid money PokĆ©mon.
You guys donāt get it. Plasma Ligia has AURA and gen 5 was always good uou just didnāt see it. Its literally Ligia from pokemon 2000 crossed over with the best game in the series. If anything its been undervalued for 10+ years and only now found its proper value.
Its a certified Nostalgia 100, Aura 100, Value 100 card
Man, the negativity on this forum can be too much sometimes (not just aimed at you, but at the general sentiment).
I mean, it“s weird this market, I agree with that, but yes Pokémon has gotten a lot bigger, many of these fans (of older cards) do have some money to spend, and yes Pokémon has become (more like) a genuine asset class.
I do agree that some of these sales are just weird (like the Lugia), but overall, the market is growing (I think). Let“s just adress that side of things as well instead of just being cynical about everything.
It was already confirmed shilled when PWCC removed the bids to bring it back down to $3.9m (still ridiculously high) but now itās already back at $10.5m. No doubt another account at work.
And I think the ex-$2.1m, now $4m Lugia is still sitting unsold. Of course, itās shilled and you donāt have to be negative to point that out. On the flipside of cynicism is naivety.
I donāt think itās cynical to point out that a lot of these big sales have BIN options available at half the price or less that arenāt being sold.
I get the conclusion that all sales are fake is a overkill, but its an emotional reaction to an obviously shilled auction. Reality is in between the end points of blind optimism & cynicism. There are plenty of record sales happening, I had multiple buyouts this week, but there are also shilled listings like the Lugia.
Also I think the cynicism is aimed at the why, as this is more complicated that people simply liking pokemon. That is definitely the true general answer for overall demand, but these esoteric 6-7 figure sales are more complicated, in a way or flavor we havenāt experienced before, at least at this scale.
Everyone is hyper focusing on the Lugia but thatās not even the most blatant example.
Thereās also a Cresselia at 340k and two Skyridge Raikou which magically jumped from 20k > 200k overnight.
Be careful out there folks, and use your best judgment. Thereās some funky stuff going on out there.
Yeah, I can definitely talk in absolutes due to emotional gut reactions, and Iām certainly on the cynical end of the spectrum. I canāt deny that. No doubt many of these high-end sales are legitimate, but it seems that everyday we see more and more dishonest ones. Some are more subtle and harder to catch. Thankfully this one is as blatant as it gets.
Thatās the problem - thereās dozens of obviously fake listings. So its not really safe to trust anything coming out of Fanatics right now. They need shill bid protections and bid transparency like Alt/eBay (though Alt does it way better than eBay).
Iāve been saying this for a while.
What systems does Alt have for better shill bid protection and bidder transparency?
Curious about this as well. Iām admittedly not too familiar with the inner workings of Alt.
And:
I donāt mean to shill alt, but if you compare directly with Fanatics, Iām not seeing them having to remove million dollar bids across dozens of items every week. Seems like most everything gets paid for there too so its not like they are missing fake bids.
There is a reason that these record breaking shill bids donāt happen in the Premier Fanatics auctions, and that is because they require financial confirmation there. Weekly doesnāt require any confirmation before someone can put in a random large number. Fanatics should be requiring financial details of accounts that bid over certain values, and hold bidders accountable for their bids which operate as binding financial contracts.
Seriously. Payment information prior to submitting a bid, instant payment upon auction win, instant ban if any shenanigans⦠not rocket science
If you are in the states I think alt requires you to tie your Social securty number to your account too
You have to do that with fanatics too, at least to withdraw. Maybe you donāt have to with fancash.
