The Giant English Market Thread

Did your item sell for more on Goldin that it would on eBay? Seems you were hit with atleast a 22% sellers’ fee. Just curious how auction houses with complex fees and pricing still gets business.

$205 * 1.22 because the buyer premium is 22% of hammer price. That gives you the final sale price of $250, but you shouldn’t use that for any calculations in what you will receive from the sale. Use the hammer price. You should have only received $194.75 because it states on their site anything under $2,499 hammer would only receive 95% of the hammer price.

Exposure. Perhaps not as much in the case of Goldin, but I just auctioned a Champion stamped card for a record price, and that is most likely due to the increased exposure. Of course its not a guarantee. If the market is soft for a card and you shout from the hilltops, it might have little to no effect. Either way I think that is the other variable that auction houses offer!

I made the mistake of selling 5 cards recently on pwcc. My profit out the door was quite a bit less than if I had sold them myself on ebay. No more pwcc for me. I think it might be better for some truly high end cards but I had a couple popular SwSh Alt Art’s I got hammered on and then 3 PSA 9/10 modern cards that sold for about fair price or a bit under. But those like $250-400 cards I don’t think I would sell on pwcc ever again.

It’s very possible they are offering some specials for certain categories like tcg (they do that often ) since it seems you received the full hammer in this case. Regardless, be happy since you should have received less lol

I agree! And thank you AP Speeze for the explanation. I am happy I was just confused on the fees they advertise vs what I receive thats all.

Curious as to how e4 weighs options when buying sealed vintage items. Do you prefer absolute mint over all else? Or is some wear allowed so long as provenance is good? (Still considered NM as I’m avoiding things like holes, water damage etc, more so speaking to like scratching on the plastic wrap or minor dents)

  • Case fresh mint only
  • NM but good provenance

I only ask because as I look to get more into sealed I wanna know how higher end buyers and collectors think. Ik IG tends to skew my viewpoint lol. 99% of box buyers are breakers who are down the cash for a max of 2 weeks before it is all recouped

If I am buying with the intent to keep it sealed or to sell it in the future and have two or more equally provenantial options to choose from then maybe I’d go the extra mile on condition. That’s the only time I would.

Assuming that is the case, and all else is the same would you pay more for the one that has no plastic scratches?

Rough price difference? If it feels like a sane upcharge then yes I probably would.

Most people I know would charge at least 15-25% more

That is too much for me personally.

I mean, we’re getting to (or already at) a point where many vintage sealed items are just quite scarce and you really can’t be picky about something being completely mint unless youre fine waiting a long time for it to pop up.

Very true, it’s just all new waters for me in my collecting journey. Coming from card collecting where a single white dot will get you banished to the shadow realm it is very different to see items in this price tier that are not effected by conditional pricing. You either have damaged, NM or perfect case fresh. That’s all. Kinda hard for someone like me to wrap my head around.

From my observations the stuff that was not hyped up by LP has seen pretty steady organic growth imo. Obviously sets in early WOTC has been overblown but there hasn’t been much notable retracement in the rest. It’s funny, as the cards in these sets plummet the boxes rise. Even in our current market

Think it probably settles here at double PSA 9 prices unless a ton more hit the market simultaneously again

I think it just shows that a cgc 10 isn’t the same as a psa 10 or bgs 10. There have been so many of these sold in the last three months. But yeah I agree.

Troll and Toad just completely gutted their bulk rates. I won’t comment further as it will probably just come off as doom and Gloom for modern.
V from $0.50 → $0.25
Charizard from $3 → $1
everything else cut 50%-90% lower than yesterday.
