The Giant English Market Thread

Holy why would it end so so low?

Because it’s a 9 disguised as a 10?

Strong subs at least!

Last one before that was about the same price as the last few, at around $9000. Could be this one was really weak or just too many hitting the market all at once.

Anyone have any idea what PSA 10s are going for? Haven’t seen a public sale in at least 6 months?

Thanks! Still pretty solid considering where it hit in 2020 and where it was before that

The boxes too are consistently 30k now. Nuts to see WOTC fall from its grace of like 65 or whatever it was. Ex has been more steady though just cause we don’t get them every quarter on heritage thrown at us. Probably the biggest fall in ex has been deoxys but deoxys still is likely 40k

Interestingly I recall seeing BGS 9.5 Neo Lugia selling for similar prices to this in the past few months. I guess people like the gold label :1st_place_medal::

Makes sense the prices are more consistent since its been around longer its more understandable. I think this compared to the volatile cgc results highlight how people don’t know what to make of the cgc 10. It feels like a mystery grade.

This was sold via eBay vault, so the seller was unable to put “PSA” in the title or description. A lot of buyers search “pokemon psa” or something similar, which may have led to them missing this card and many other CGC slabs. If I didn’t purposely search for “cgc pokemon,” I would have missed it and every other eBay vault CGC listing.

I have found some crazy deals on ebay by searching ‘1999 pokemon game 1st edition’ instead of Base set 1st edition.
Does anyone know why psa uses ‘1999 pokemon game’ on their label instead of base set?

I believe it is because WoTC never formally named the product as “Base Set” on their packs, boxes, or advertising. They just called them Pokemon Boosters from the Pokemon TCG.

All other sets had an actual name (e.g., Jungle, Fossil, Base Set 2, etc.).

Got it. I guess that people found out it was called base set after base set 2 was released.

Yeah, it’s going to take a while to see where it all sits it seems. It seems so far people are still valuing them more like the old 9.5 or closer to BGS 9.5 than PSA 10. I was kind of expecting something in-between BGS 9.5 and PSA 10, but so far that hasn’t been the case from what I’ve observed. I think the people paying significantly more or closer to PSA 10 prices are either inexperienced or unaware of the prior market conditions/valuations. The other possibility is PSA 10s are simply overpriced, but it seems that the market consistently pays more for them with very few exceptions to the rule.

I know a lot of people were banking on the new CGC 10 commanding a premium more consistently, but it’s not clear yet if that will be the case or if it will become a new norm now or in the future.

Bingo

I personally think at their current prices CGC 10s are a good value buy.

Cgc 10 = somewhere between psa 9 to bgs 9.5 price

Cgc pristine 10 = Psa 10 ± 20%?

Nearly all CGC 10 I’ve seen are significantly higher than PSA 9 (wild range but I’ve seen anywhere from 25-300% higher), but can be anywhere from 20- 60% below PSA 10 prices lol

Pristines mostly seem to have a premium, just like you said 10-20% usually.

Sun faded and cut cards should never be graded.

I guess the former can be done after encasing, but then should be rejected from auctions.

Looks like Drew relisted the 1st blastoise 9, probably didn’t like the 3.6 ending price… (?)

Considering it’s an auction, its likely to end 5.5k+ for some lucky weekend bidder. Don’t have to freeze thread, just mentioning. Would be pretty significant for the 2x, but can it happen? I see a lot of returning collectors eager. Looks like there’s many english cards rising in price including lugias, cgc, :sunglasses:
