The Giant eBay Garbage Thread

Maybe this is too harsh given some of the posts in this thread detailing attempted scams, but this hunk of garbage is listed at $40…

a card i bought was rejected from authenticity guarantee when it first rolled out like a year ago. seller got his card back and i was refunded - dont know how a buyer could get screwed out of their money if it didnt pass though

I was thinking of the opposite case, where the authenticity guarantee okayed an item (thereby ensuring an irreversible transaction), but the card/slab was, in fact, not correct. Like with a bait-and-switch kind of thing.

Nevermind, found some Rattle videos where he talked about some Ebay authentication issues. I think those were the ones I had recollection of.

The quality of the average human has never been lower… Cynicism

Honestly tho, folks, this is why we gotta be good to each other here (and everywhere when we can). And why I’d much rather buy from a @stagecoach @Rattlesnake or @smpratte to name a few.

Do we have a list, BTW of eFour ebay, etc shops?

I didn’t even notice that

No I don’t think so, but idk if “advertising” or “promoting” stores is allowed on efour. @pfm

WElllllll, it’s more like:

“THIS is the official list of E4 members who sell stuff. No reviews, ratings, plugs, listings, or offers will be submitted or allowed here.”

Kinda like a “trusted seller” list that you can be listed on. Maybe requiring an approval process? …This is starting to sound like work for the mods… Meh. Maybe not a great idea.

This is a decision that @smpratte needs to make. We already kind of have it with the icon next to your name.

A neat option is that it can be potentially automated based on the links people add to their profile. Going further I could also automate pulling listings from all the accounts

We’ve entertained this idea quite a bit before, but there are a lot of issues with it. We already have the eBay link next to your name, so if people want to go to the eBay stores of trusted E4 members, it’s just a click away. It’s also a built-in incentive to use the forum, because the more posts you have and the higher quality they are, the more someone is likely to see/click on your link.

An “official list” of sellers implies E4’s endorsement of the sellers much more than a link next to a name. What happens when a seller screws up or does something wrong? Do they get removed from the list? Banned from the forum? Regardless, as you note, this is work for the mods to manage. If there’s an approval process, how do you run that? If its difficult to get listed, this reduces the possibility of disputes that need to be managed, but increases the likelihood of frustrated members or accusations of favoritism. If it’s easy to get listed, this increases dispute likelihood and you may get an influx of D-tier members just looking to promote themselves.

I honestly can’t think of an idea that promotes quality forum engagement and reduces work for the mods better than the link system we currently have.

Unfortunately there isn’t an option that doesn’t add more downside. The trust level works well enough. It’s rare that a member is highly active and untrustworthy.

I’ve never really clicked on a member’s ebay link, just don’t think about it. I just search for cards and if i happen to run across someone i recognize on the forum i may message them.

Dope! So I can list my Pikachu with grey felt hat at 35K and it will populate in E4 for Scott to buy? That’s fantastic!

sad but i still list damaged cards, you will get some random who will buy it. lots of PSA 1 graders now that may want a particular card.

@fourthstartcg Totally get that, and THAT is also what I would think.

Not sure if this is the place to ask this but this thread had eBay in the title😅

Admins feel free to remove/move my question.

I bought an item and the seller didn’t ship until I asked about it. But it’s been at label created for four days with a delivery day of Thursday. But usps says they haven’t gotten the package. I’m just getting a bit nervous is all
