2026 version: see the buyer sell your card at 2-3x your sale price a week later ![]()
I canāt help but pulverize an already deeply buried horse amongst sellers here: why do buyers think āhey boss/pal/buddy/broā is an effective means of negotiating? Iāll never understand that. If you want me to take you seriously communicate in a way that sounds serious (and donāt have a stupid request
)
im gonna go ahead and assume that everything this guy sells is fake ![]()

Thatās just how people talk these days. I here so many people just talking like that to each other normally.
In normal every day life it makes sense, and I agree I hear it all the time (I live in a surfer bro area of SoCal lol). But negotiating the price on something you want to buy as a business transaction it does not make sense to me.
I binged Animal Kingdom on Netflix a little while ago, itās about a crime family from Oceanside. Iāve never heard that much bro, man, dude and whatever in my life. ![]()
i sell way more than just cards and this is true for 90% of all messages i get
I hope this the correct place to post this.
Iām just frustrated selling things on eBay. The second time in a row a buyer (different buyer on both occasions) buys something for the BIN price. Then afterwards he starts asking tons of questions about the product.
Why not asking questions first and then buy the product if you like the answers. Maybe Iām weird but the behaviour above is just not logical for me.
Youāre not weird, they failed buyer etiquette 101.
Itās definitely bad behaviour and I wouldnāt do it myself but I do get the logic.
Itās FOMO driven. If they ask a question, they might have to wait a couple hours for the seller to reply, someone else buys it in the meantime. In this market, the next time it goes up for sale a few weeks later it could be double the price.
They just think better to inconvenience the seller if they donāt like the answers than to run that risk.
(Now if this is an item that has 10 similar copies listed at the same time, same price, then youāre right thereās no logic at all to that!)
Sends offer with shipping cost displayed. After I accept his offer he complains about the shipping cost. Heād rather be blocked than honor his offer price.
Hereās his username with comma placement for your copy/paste pleasure.

+1 and I have litterally said this multiple times on the forum. People say that you can do everything without talking, but I prefer talking to people rather than sending a offer and it getting declined. If you sell consistently and make money off of it, customer service is expected, especially if you run a company with big orders. If you canāt do that, I dont see a reason why you (or anyone else), should think about pursuing pokemon or business ventures overall.
I dont care if itās smpratte or a random seller I just found, everyone should be able to offer courtesy and care when people message them.
This is a good example of what Iām talking about, counterintuitive it may seem:
1.Messages the buyer after cancelling the order
2. No snarky remarks
3. Clear messaging
4. Decent conclusion without much drama.
Canāt say he deserves to be blocked by everyone simply over 1 thing, but I digress.
Iām still in the same boat of over communicating for orders, but I think that our situations may be different than those who say not to say too much.
Iām not gonna speak for you, but Iām still very much in the infancy of my store. I donāt mind the messages because my store is pretty small, growing, and I have also had really great interactions with sellers after Iāve asked a lot of questions that led me to buying their card.
I would imagine though that after youāve been selling for years and years you would start to see pattern recognition among the messages you get. And with the pattern recognition comes a desire to just get to the end, which is usually either them not buying the product or asking for some sort of refund or whatever. The long-time sellers also probably have hundreds or thousands of items in their store, which is a lot of messages, so I would imagine they just donāt have the time to answer all the inquiries. Especially is they also have full-time jobs on top of it.
Iām gonna keep answering questions as best I can, but Iām not gonna beat myself up when my store gets big enough when I can no longer do that.
There are ways to ask questions and there are ways to not ask questions.
On the ebay app, does anyone else have old orders that they canāt hide on the purchases section? There are 2 orders from 2019 that wonāt go away and itās destroying me inside. P.S. this is back when I built a full early WOTC PSA holo set in 7+ grades
The reason ebay is the number one platform for me is that you simply list a card with pictures and words that show and describe the card. 99% of the time this formula works with no effort beyond this required.
When you sell 100s or 1000s the effort of messaging back and forth becomes tedious quickly. Some people treat it like a social site or think they can message their way into getting items under market value. Itās got to the point where some people question grades or return items over ambigious condition terms because thereās a white dot on the back border. On average those people are more likely to cause problems with returns etc. because usually they donāt know what they are doing or are looking to make money at the expensive of the seller, so personally I donāt engage with them (and sometimes even block them), because I know that on average there is a higher probability of an issue happening. There are always reasonable exceptions of course.
I find that if I raise my prices just a llittle bit, with the sellers market we have right now, these messages largely stop. People are not so impulsive to buy the low-low option.
Now, if thatās NOT the case, and your prices were right at the market price⦠ID what to say. SO many buyers and sellers, as @c0ll3ct0r said, failed āHuman Social Interactions 101ā

Put up an ETB, lowered the price a bit til I started getting interest, all of a sudden this morning 2 messages nearly identical. Is this like, a theme for ETBs? I already have pics of the whole box up, not going to go take more for someone who isnāt buying.
