When you get a message on eBay about an item for sale, you can instantly rule out this person from making a purchase. And if they do miraculously part with their money, you’re spending the next few weeks waiting on the message that there is an issue and they want a return/refund.

That’s only a “rule” on this forum as far as I can see. In reality, the vast majority of sellers don’t mind being asked a question and don’t automatically assume a buyer will be problematic if they do.

The meme that Quuador referenced that I shared was from mtg, and I don’t know if it even originated there, as its not limited to E4, pokemon, or mtg. The lower value the item, the more variety in people buying, hence a higher chance of weird/time wasting messages. When you get above a certain price point, the buyers are more serious. These are all averages, but its pretty inherent the higher you get in dollar value, the less time wasted.

I responded to a blanket statement about all buyers.
The worst ebay experiences as a seller are the ones where the buyer always kept asking a question, even got scammed once by one of them on a return.
Whenever I list cards now for auctions or offers, any questions I get I pretty much ignore unless it’s very reasonable (which is rare).
Not worth the hassle of negotiating on messages when I have best offer listed, or taking pictures of a small spot of whitening on a modern raw card listed as NM.

I understand, you responded by saying only on this forum, which is why I referenced the meme, as its not from this forum or pokemon, as this pattern isn’t limited to pokemon or collectibles. Also I mentioned how these are averages; not everyone messaging a seller is bad.

All buyers sending questions and not paying and all buyers who send questions being problematic once the item arrived is not what your meme is about. That is what I was commenting on.
This forum is the only place I’ve seen sellers act like they are above being communicated with. Again, that is not what your meme is about.
You are saying higher value = less communication
lower value = more communication

The meme is about time wasting messages, and I think its mostly sellers are just venting their lived experience. Either way I’m not trying to argue about it, just contextualizing.
Oh and E4 had 18,300 user visits this month, just because a few sellers vent doesn’t mean the entire site shares that belief. You are here and don’t share that belief. Even for myself, while I agree with the meme or general point, I’m not trying to grind an axe. Just trying to zoom things out as a few strong opinions don’t represent the entirety of E4.

I like and relate to the meme. This isn’t about the meme. I never said the entire site shares the belief. I do not care about venting until the blanket statements.
I get this is your forum, and you probably don’t like me throwing small amounts of shade at a few sellers since this could be considered a platform on which to sell, but it sounds like you actually share the same feeling I do about blanket statements. You don’t like the idea that all sellers on this forum don’t want to be communicated with, and I don’t like the idea that all buyers who send messages are problematic.
