The Giant eBay Garbage Thread

I get these sorta things all the time too. I reckon theres a video out there somewhere that explains how you can get easy refunds from people sending untracked, and occasionally people stumble on it and then try their luck on any random old ebay order lol

Won an auction, nothing special, Was refunded told ā€œsomeone else in[sic] ebay bought itā€ among other very hard to parse sentences

I called them out on duplicate listings(if that was the case), and showed a screenshot there was no buy it now. He said he forgot to mark it out of stock. But it was an auction. I wondered how he was able to take pics of items not in his possession.

Acct Started 15 Jan. Knew it was a risk but took a chance. I ended up winning a psa10 for only like $5 more than raw on a card i rly wanted. Still, this is like, very, very little money at play, more principle. Iā€™ll nab another.

Since I didnā€™t believe them one bit. Nothing added up, they expected more money, and tried to sell me a different ungraded card thru chat which I found really in poor taste. ā€œSorry, sold the filet we promised for 15. Hereā€™s an uncooked soy burger, same great price! Ima need the fund back[also sic]ā€. I proceeded to use then sites mechanisms for displaying dissatisfaction and am somewhat regretting it nowā€¦

***Main q, tldr. Anyone ever make enemies leaving neutral feedback? Given its a brand new account he could make a new one and buy from me and nuke my feedback. But feedback helps people who need to know sellers that arenā€™t taking it seriously (wonder why itā€™s brand new accout) but I didnā€™t want to nuke em completely. He did deserve it, but I donā€™t want enemies. Anyone face feedback retribution? This worries me more than not getting a cheap card

I personally feel that we should always leave honest feedback after dealings. Giving up or giving in when it truly matters to us is what makes society or communities trash. But I also DGAF mostly is someone tries to harass me. :sunglasses: No mind for that.

Yeah Iā€™m not letting it get to me or losing any sleep. Just wary of any orders coming from the same location from accounts with minimal feedback for a bit I guess, but I really doubt it in this case.

As Iā€™ve moved up into more graded cards Iā€™m experiencing this type of cancellation more often from both buyers and sellers so Iā€™m wondering how honest to be in the future. Im generally extremely chill and understanding until a line is crossed then I kinda let loose. Gonna try and avoid that, I held myself back from leaving a negative one, and just stated the raw facts in my neutral review.

You got a good attitude about it.

edit: I feel I should say Iā€™ve resolved numerous misunderstandings without issue at this point, this one and a few other were the first time I feel it was doneā€¦ not maliciously but ā€œI coulda made/saved moreā€ regret which results in a cancel

you unfortunately have to be harsh and stay as tight as possible on any deadlines to report things. Iā€™m still in limbo on some stuff because I was trying to be nice and wait a little while, and all it does is benefit any potential dishonest people. However this means normal people who really are just a little slow to send stuff or whatever(life happens) get needlessly punished.

It isnā€™t graded cards solely. Iā€™ve seen a marked uptick in fake cards being sold as real. I encountered an account selling nothing but expensive sneakers and fake pokemon cards. It had a %40 positive feedback rating with tons of reports for fakes and unfulfilled orders.

I just donā€™t understand how these sellers persist. Some are pretty savvy but idk how a 40% stays up. I do think I got some results removing listings that use low tier grading companies but put ā€œPSA CGCā€ in the title from showing up when you filter by PSA. At least a few shops are gones when I filter now.

Also fun when I speak to ebay on the phone and tell them ā€˜this buyer has tons of ā€œpositiveā€ feedback saying theyā€™re a scammer. Will I be punished for cancelling this?ā€™

-no

Not that I care, but it did end up in me losingā€¦ some sorta status for cancelling an order for being ā€œout of stockā€. Yeah, it woulda been outta stock and I woulda been out the money too.

Hey all; I would recommend blocking tnehar4 as a buyer on eBay. I understand that sometimes people make mistakes when bidding, and I am happy to retract their bid for them if they give me enough advance notice (even a few hours before an auction ends), but this buyer waits till the auction ends to message me to cancel the sale. He knew he wanted to cancel the bid much earlier. This caused me a great deal of inconvenience and interrupted my sale. Of course I honored his cancellation request, as not doing so probably would have caused more problems, but I was PEEVED.

His apologies for inconvenience seem very empty, and for someone who couldnā€™t afford purchasing the BGS 9.5 Umbreon VMAX Alt Art at $1975, he has no problem selling his own at $2350. Just all in all sleezy and slimy. I would NOT do business with him as either a seller or a buyer. He deserves to be blacklisted to high heaven. Kind of venting, but I guess Iā€™ve been pretty peeved with the flakey buyers lately. Seems theyā€™re more in abundance with this boom.

i leave negs for all canceled sales. if you cant complete the transaction you shouldnt be selling on ebay  maybe mercari is more suitable for those sellers

Mostly agreed. I have only once not been able to send a card, and that was because I forgot I had it listed, and someone bought it. Granted they paid twice the market value ($20 for a $10 non-holo, NM MtG card), and I directed them to a fairly priced option. So I have screwed that poochā€¦ but only once, and neā€™er again!

Another one sadly: gyaradosgallery

The kicker was that he didnā€™t bid till the very last minute (only had one bid throughout the auction, and then bid an amount he could not afford). Itā€™s been getting pretty exasperating with the non-payers. Another buyer for the blacklist I guess, and just letting the community know of another buyer/seller not to do business with. Heā€™s a seller too, so playing devilā€™s advocate, maybe he does want the card for his own collection. Otherwise, heā€™s just trying to get the card at a price where he can flip it.

If youā€™d decline the cancellation, what happens? Does eBay force the purchase on his card?

He sadly hadnā€™t paid yet @Dyl. Also, eBay asks you to honor the cancellation if the buyer paid and you havenā€™t yet printed out the shipping label. Of course, in theory, if the buyer paid and then asked to cancel, you could screw them over by printing the label and say ā€œWhoops, sorry, I already shipped the item out (eBay asks you for shipping information in order to decline the cancellation),ā€ but I feel they would leave a negative review and or cause other problems. More of a headache than itā€™s worth. I personally just honor all cancellation requests through clenched teeth and block them. Coming here to name and shame them is a little cathartic.

Grateful for the supportive community on E4 though, even if there are bad eggs/bad actors in the general population/outside of E4! Always appreciative of Scottā€™s and everyoneā€™s insights!

Iā€™m assuming you arenā€™t in the US? If the listing had authenticity guarantee, I think you could force it through if they paid. And if they donā€™t pay, you can wait roughly 2 days (I think), to at least hit them with a non-paying buyer strike, right? I never do auctions, so I donā€™t know the rules all that well. Sucks to have this happen so often though.

Iā€™m based in the US! The listing did have Authenticity Guarantee, though I didnā€™t realize you could force the purchase through. Honestly, I wouldnā€™t want to deal with the hassle of negative feedback and or other complications because I sent out an item for an order they wanted to cancel (getting on the phone with eBay Customer Service to remove the negative feedback for their purchase experience, etc etc.). I guess I wouldnā€™t have to honor the return after it passes through Authenticity, as I donā€™t accept returns, but shipping after a cancellation request seems like a logistical nightmare. Iā€™m not sure if the buyer gets hit with a non-payment strike if they send a cancellation request, though I hope they do. Youā€™re not able to decline the cancellation request without shipment information, and I think the cancellation request might actually go through automatically if you ignore it for a few days.

I think you can only force it through the authenticity check if they pay (which they probably wouldnā€™t do anyway), like you mentioned (i.e. no returns). If they donā€™t pay and request a cancellation (and you confirm the cancellation), Iā€™m pretty sure they donā€™t receive a non-payment strike. I think thatā€™s something the seller has to actively request after an auction has been unpaid for a while. And waiting it out means you canā€™t relist your item for however long youā€™re waiting too, so itā€™s annoying in that sense also. In the end, itā€™s probably more trouble than itā€™s worth to try and force a strike on the buyer, as they can always just make a new account anyway.

Or simply toss in 75th birthday card like someone did for @Kijamon , recycling in its finest form and in future there will be no freebie requests by that same user.

Yeah, wish there was a better way to keep non-paying buyers from coming back :-/
