There isn’t, and by a large margin. Matches lasting for 2-3 hours is commonplace in tournaments.
I know it’s quiet in here… But I just made it to Master Ball rank in VGC! I’m still only ranked like 5000th, and I feel kind of sneaky because my team has a lot of strong pokemon (I feel like you should at least try and use something different), but I’m pleased with this progress.
I’ve included a discussion of the team(s) I used, if people are interested.
[SPOILER: Click to show](javascript:void(0);)SpoilerI’ve used 2 different teams this season. Both times I was adamant I’d make my own team. I really wanted to use Lugia, but it was not really compatible with the rest of the team. It was easily the best single pokemon, but the rest of them just did not work with it. I also wanted to use Sniper Kingdra, but the team was just so out of balance and had very few counters to a lot of popular pokemon. I’m determined to try and make it work, so I’ll revisit it at some stage.
1st team: (I was rotating a bunch of these in and out) Lugia, Type: Null, Kingdra, Heatran, Landorus-T, Durant, Metagross, Meowstic, Regieleki, Rotom-W.
I was pretty much stuck in tiers 7-8. After one particularly bad run during which I took 7 consecutive Ls I decided I needed to make a change. Off and on over the course of a couple of days I just fiddled with the teambuilder on showdown just thinking about what would be fun/useful. That lead to my 2nd team. 2nd team: Xerneas, Cinderace, Ferrothorn, Togetic, Dragapult, and Lapras.
This is unquestionably better, but it still lacks firepower since I’m using Dragapult as support. The aim is to allow Xerneas to Geomancy, but in reality that very rarely happens since so many teams are set up to counter it, so I often leave it on the bench.
Nice!
I didn’t even realize Meowstic was all that competitively viable. What moveset were you using on it, out of curiosity?
@mjs61290, all the evidence I’ve gathered has led me to believe that it is not, in fact, all that viable
Meowstic is Prankster w/Sash and has Fake Out, Protect, T-wave, and Quick Guard. Essentially I used it to allow me to set up a calm mind on Lugia/focus energy on Kingdra and then slow down the opponent, but this season it’s extremely ineffective. To be fair it wasn’t that bad in previous seasons when dynamaxing wasn’t allowed, but Fake Out is so much less common now that Quick Guard isn’t very useful.
Protect is also basically useless. I think at one point I had Yawn instead, but probably any of Light Screen/Reflect, Helping Hand, or some stat-reducing move would be better.
I used to play on OU Shoddy Battle back in the Diamond / Pearl era.
My favorite team was a rain dance / rapid spin team that back door’d into a Shedinja that won far more battles then it should have.
Swords dance, Shadow Sneak, X Scissor, and Protect was the move set! It probably killed several hundred Pokémon by itself over the course of most matches I won.
