@pfm do you have pictures of those 10s you got that had the holo scratches?

You mean other than the Kingler?

Yeah, I think it 4 right?

I sold them all in 2020

That is the most likely case. My Scyther has a scratch on the case, but on the scan you would think it was on the holo (right side, middle region):

I guess all one could do would double check with the seller when buying if it’s a real concern.

Big brain move right there :fire::lizard:

Any scratches in the card that are not on the case?

None that I could find after taking a close look. The scratch I found on the case I didn’t even notice until I scanned it, and then I had to look under bright light to find it, and I confirmed it’s on the case and not the holo. The only ‘flaw’ I could find on the card is a very tiny chip (barely noticeable) on the bottom on the back of the card. So to me it’s worthy of a 10 given the fact Jungle holos are known to have a lot of silvering/rough edges out of the pack.

Beautiful card. I was just surprised that a 10 could receive a 10 even with a holo scratch or a slight scratch on the card. Even if it’s small and not visible to the naked eye and you have to tilt it under a light at a certain angle. But I’m still very new to grading so this has definitely been a learning experience. Thank you everyone as always for being willing to share and help educate

There’s definitely some wiggle room on some cards/sets. It just depends on how severe the flaw(s) are. I think that’s why companies like BGS often went with the whole 9.5 Gem Mint standard with sub-grades to discern these minor flaws at times.

However, the market still values a 10 on the label far more than the potential for some type of flaw on the card. If it says 10 on the label instead of 9.5, people are enticed and more satisfied on a psychological level. So it really just comes down to the collector and what they want. A PSA 9 is definitely going to be the better value option, but there is an added appeal to seeing a 10 on the label for a lot of people as well.

Is this the silvering you were talking about on jungle cards?

In my experience slab scratches are alot more fine, uniform and elongated. I would think the the scratch is on the masaki gengar itself.

Most vintage 10s have a flaw somewhere. Many of mine have some tiny scratches.

Interesting. Have pictures of some of them? If you’re okay with sharing.

I recently sold my PSA 9 base set Raichu bc it had silvering on it. Actually sold for better than I hoped. Just was a eye sore in my opinion

Yup, that’s exactly what it is. Even some Base Set and Fossil holos will have it at times, but Jungle is notorious for it. Some 10s will have a bit, but usually it’s very minor compared to 9s. So every set/card has ‘known’ issues and I feel PSA and other graders factor it all in accordingly.

These are all high grade vintage holos and it makes sense that I suppose each set had their own thing
