at the time hidden fates was top tier. Everyone thought it was peak. which is why we get a bootleg “fates” set every generation now
also they still havent done shiny alt arts

I find this bizarre, too. Brilliant Stars is a far better set than Silver Tempest overall. There are some gorgeous ARs, not to mention a couple of StonkBreons in there for the fans. Like Waily said I guess it’s just simply down to supply, but then again we’ve seen powerful, unwavering demand for other products make massive supply completely null and void. Attention span in this hahbee is also insanely short, so maybe people have forgotten about it already.
We now have 6 shiny alt arts…
Not wanting to speak on his behalf, but I think the point WW was getting at is that, at the time, Hidden Fates was one of, if not the, best modern sets of the era. It introduced novelty and enhanced collectability that had not been seen in prior sets. It marked a real turning point in modern collecting, or, at the very least, occurred at the time of a turning point. Hidden Fates was one of the last S&M releases just on the cusp of the SWSH era beginning, and maintained its rank as (arguably) the best set even while we were a few sets into the SWSH era. TPC quickly learned that the collector base loved full arts, and more specifically, special illustration full arts. They continued to capitalise on that realisation throughout the later SWSH era and that’s what made SWSH, to date, the best modern era. It’s only now, 5+ years later, that we’re seeing furore (for Prismatic) on a par with what we saw for Hidden Fates in late 2019/early 20.
Whilst I agree with all you said. I don’t think prismatic is on the same level of hidden fates, or evolving skies for that matter. I wouldn’t even really compare them if I’m honest.
Hidden fates bought something completely new to the collector. It also bought in so many people (I would say more organically too) and the demand was insane for it for many years after release. Unless people grow to love the hat pokemon, I can’t imagine a massive demand 3-5 years from now for prismatic.
We are not really seeing anything new with prismatic. We’ve already got eeveelution alt arts and arguably better alt arts (including the English promos from the Eeveelution boxes) than what prismatic is offering. I think Vmax Climax & Vstar Universe would also be better long term bets as they have more to chase vs the 11 chases from prismatic/tera festival
If everyone could stop hypebeast fam to the moon the 151 Charizard until I buy it to finish my set, that would be great. Need that and Zapdos to finish 151. Thanks.
Yeah, no I agree - I was comparing the levels of hype rather than the sets themselves. Primastic has very broad appeal but isn’t quite for everyone, whereas HF was a hugely exciting time for collectors all-round.
if you didn’t buy evolving skies at $50 per booster box, you’re already too late
Well deserved for one of the greatest eras of Pokemon. Not justifying some prices but the attention these artworks are getting is warranted imo. Top tier pieces of art
Its crazy that ES booster boxes were $145 upon release even at my local stores and online. Which is wild seeing as though before ES, booster boxes were going for $60 - $80 on average. Even Pokemon Center bumped their price for ES.
I am questioning this one. Hasn’t Pokémon Center always sold at MSRP?
I was surprised as well when I tried getting them on Pokemon Center back then. I believe if you go on their site they should still have those prices. They are sold out though but the prices should be the same. Ill go check now
I just found it. They were $143 not $145

ETB value is up 30% over the past year. I guess that’s relatively “flat” compared to almost every other set.
