Starting my Alakazam collection

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share the start of my Alakazam “species” collection. I wasn’t sure to post this cause I’m at the very beginning, but then I though it could have been fun the see the collection grow little by little.

Here are some picture of my binder:

I gave myself some rules to start with:

  • I’d like to collect one card x artwork, it means that I’m not interested into collecting every edition and variant of the same card, unless there is a different artwork for it.
  • In the case of multiple edition/variant I’ll choose the best one for me, but also taking into consideration my budget (for example let’s think about the Alakazam from Skyridge, I love the creepy artwork but I’m not willing to pay that much for the holo version, so I’m gonna choose the non-holo variant).
  • Right now I’m collecting in ITA (native language), ENG and jpn, maybe in the future I’ll consider getting all the collection in one (when possible) language.

I would also like to collect some non-tcg stuff, I’ve read some amazing articles here on E4 and I got really exited about it! I didn’t know most of the product I discovered lately.

For the binder composition I took inspiration from @peeplop on instagram, I’m sure most of you know him cause he became quite popular lately.

(I know a pink/purple binder would be perfect for Alakazam but that’s the one I had avaiable atm, I’ll think about getting a new one in the future. Being an artist myself I could eventually customize it, but I’m a little scared to mess it up haha, I got to do some research and some trial and error before destroing a good binder).

Lastly, I know about the masaki promo alakazam but it’s definitely out of my budget, I’ll consider it eventually after getting the gold star.

Also, i wanted to thanks @sableguy and @azulryu for the help and encouragement about the last post, I actually find a copy of the slide up Alakazam but unfortunately the seller didn’t ship the item to Italy, I’ll keep hunting.

If anyone was curious I’ll share a photo about what that card looked like, so cool with the dark alakazam design!

Really cool binder! Who drew the top left sketches on the second page?

Thanks! I found the concept sketches here , I’m not sure about the artist but I think they were made for the anime/film.

These kind of drawings (with outlined and defined shadows) really reminds me of other works I usually see in japanese anime artbook.

Also in the original picture you can see it’s a scan, this means it was probably taken from an artbook or similar.

I’m assuming it’s a character model sheet that was distributed to animators to help them stay on model when drawing characters. Alakazam is one of my favorite Pokemon so I’m excited to see you collect more cards! It’s looking great so far!

Your binder looks great I love the hand drawn art. Did you do that yourself?

So excited to see what becomes of it and wicked happy to know you’re already chasing some non-tcg items. Not sure what your collection boundaries are but the Alakazam line has some wonderful comics in the 4-Frame Gag Theatre books. There’s even one with Alakazam as Santa but I couldn’t find the book in my storage to showcase. Here are some examples though:

Looking forward to your next update! I already love what you’ve outlined for your binder.

Thaanks! Nope all the arts in here are official drawings, but I’m planning on doing some original art myself in the future

Thank you so much! I love to give the binder some extra color

Woo, thoose page are soo cool! Right now I’m just trying to collect everything that fits in a binder, but looking at alakazam “in action” is very fun! I hope in the future they are gonna release some crazy artwork for my favourite pokemon

I definitely love that you shared your collection early in your journey! I wish I had more pictures of my progress. I also like the idea of documenting everything along the way. Gives you something more concrete to look back on. I look forward to your future updates!

Yeah that was the idea! Thanks for the support

Good evening everyone!

I wanted to share some more updates of my growing Alakazam collection with some new pickups and the non-tcg stuff

Filling some empty spaces in the first page, I got the team rocket’s dark alakazam and the platinum lv.56 both in a local convention here in my town.

I’ve happily completed a beautiful spread page, the last card I picked up was the Lucario with the Mega Zam cameo.

I also managed to get the paldean fates and 151 ones I was missing to fill up another page.

On the next page I was planning to put some artworks printed, that’s why you see the empty spots.

About the extra non-tcg stuff, I got some cool sleeves and some curious japanese and western products!

Here are my honorable mentions, starting from the third series carddass, to the sealdass, and the lenticular mini card from stadium action 3d

Video Project 2

Last but not least the pracoro dices (thanks to @azulryu for introducing me to them).

ALSO, I’m really curious to know what’s inside the box, but I’m not sure to open it, what do you guys suggest? “Should I open it or should I keep it seald” jingle

Alakazam is my favorite Pokemon too! Also, I love how your binder is organized/decorated!

Thank you so much! In the future I’d like to decorate also the cover of the binder!

Here is an opening of it to satisfy your curiosity. Apparently it’s called a Bandai Placoro Dice Battle Evolution 5-pack. I would just keep it sealed, since it’s a cool looking box. Alternatively, you could buy a second one, and open the worst condition of the two: here is a Mercari listing for it or alternatively here an eBay listing.

And nice update! Love the Michi method in your binder, and that lenticular little card is pretty cool as well. Thanks for sharing it as a gif.

Greetz,

YOOO thank you! I couldn’t find a box opening of the dice, thanks for sharing that, they look so cool!

Yeah I think the best decision is to keep it sealed for now, trying to get one more to open
