So buying cards from Japan just got 24% more expensive

Had to fill out form CBP Form 5106 (importer identification form) from FedEx. Package was stuck in “clearance delay” for a few days. Since my last post, I called FedEX international (1.800.463.3339) a few times and got the run around. Today I called and told them we weren’t making progress and they had customs send me a docu-sign form while I was on the phone. Will update when package arrives

What was the declared value of the package?

Around 300,000 yen ($2000)

I don’t think this is related to the tariffs. I had to do this last year and similarly I recall my package was delayed several days, filled out the same form & docu-sign and eventually received my package w/out issues.

Only use EMS, friends. You will almost never pay fees with EMS.

Too bad I didn’t know this earlier :sob: … had to pay 10% tariff on 180k yen order shipped via UPS

If there is a 10% tariff, then you would still have to pay it even when using EMS. UPS and FedEx almost always charge an additional broker fee of 20 to 50 dollars for higher valued packages while EMS doesn’t.

Gotcha! Thanks for clearing that up for me.
