Slowqueen's Slowpokes, Slowbros, and Slowkings (Update: Pokemon Pad and more!)

To start things off I’d like to share my “Slowly Grails” thus far, these are cards that are particularly special to me.

(Edited to add) 121/S-P Korean Coloring Book Promo Galarian Slowpoke

Many people on E4 followed the journey of tracking down this elusive card in the 121/S-P thread. After months of intense searching through Korean internet forums, Pokemon Korea, mom blogs, bookstores, and more, some friends and I tracked down the only graded copy of this card. The owner was really nice, and he enjoyed my Slowpoke collection a lot. Instead of asking for money, he actually traded me the card for an original painting. Check out the full story & the painting in the 121/S-P thread I linked above! This is my favorite card ever.

Topps First Appearance Slowking Holo

This card is the most insane holofoil I’ve ever seen: Topps First Appearance Slowking. They were released in Topps packs for the Pokemon 2000 Movie, there are 6 different kinds: Lugia, Slowking, Ledyba, Elekid, Hoothoot, and Belossom. I was on the hunt for this Slowking for a long time, until someone on Discord alerted me that there was a Reddit user who had this available for trade. I happily traded some of my modern cards in exchange for this beauty!

Signed Matthew Sussman Slowking

This card is very special because it’s the first signed card in my collection, and because it was kindly acquired for me by some very wonderful people on Discord. Matthew Sussman is the voice actor for Slowking, and this card was signed by him at the London Card Show!

Topps Film Frame

These cards were released in Topps packs promoting the Pokemon 2000 movie. Each card is unique and features a different frame from the film. To find one featuring Slowking, I wound up sending dms to everyone I could find who’d ever posted about or sold one of these cards. I finally found an awesome seller on Mercari who was able to ask around and find me this one. It’s a gem!

VA Signed Slowpoke & Psyduck Tag Team

This card brings me so much joy! I loved meeting Michael Haigney and Eric Stuart in person. There really is so much going on here, from the pink Slowpoke auto to the “Psi-Yi-Yi” to the “My Poké Pal Caroline” personalization in two different colors. It’s truly one of a kind and a great memory for me. I wrote more about the card in this update.

(Edited to add) Topps Tekno Slowpoke

This card was a part of Topps Chrome Series 2, which had a relatively lower print run than Series 1. The packs included regular Topps Chrome cards, as well as rare Spectra Tekno and Sparkle variants. I’m still on the lookout for Spectra and Sparkle, but Tekno is by far the one I’ve been most wanting. The photos don’t do it justice, the holo is truly insane.

The story of your Topps film frame is very neat, and I’m glad you were able to track one down with Slowking in it. The item itself also looks super cool :slightly_smiling_face:

It wasn’t far from my jaw hitting the floor, as a topps enjoyer this would be a perfect card for species collecting. Looking forward to you sharing more as the thread already looks gorgeous, always a treat to see more species collectors!

@joponnes Thank you so much, I just checked out your Slime collection too and it’s amazing as well – hooray for species collecting! The non-TCG stuff is some of my favorite for sure, and I’m grateful Slowking is such a huge part of the Pokemon 2000 movie because it resulted in the Topps cards here  I’ll be sharing lots more non-TCG in the future, just waiting for a few more things to come in.

Very neat! I’m a little surprised there aren’t more Slowpoke line cameos. I thought Slowpoke was relatively popular, and it’s involvement in the Slowpoke well incident in Gold/Silver would give it some sort of cameo on some Team-Rocket-related card.

@Kratosso Thank you so much – I got them on Etsy and there were a few options! Maybe there are some for Porygon. I just ordered this adorable one for my non-TCG binder as well

A little late here, but great collection! The Slow line has so many great arts, and it’s really great to see them all here together! It’d be hard to pick favorites, but I do love the Aquapolis and HGSS lines quite a bit!

Look forward to seeing other languages sometime!

I created an account to say two things…#1) Your entire Slow collection is a masterpiece! #2) Thank you so much for collecting like you do and posting as I am working on my own Master Collection for each of them as you did! I’ve always loved Slowpoke & the evolutions/variations so it made sense for me to start a master collection with them first. But it’s been so difficult to find a good list or reference to use. I was about to spend a full dedicated day or two researching all possible cards from the ENG & JP card lists & non-TCG items. So I truly thank you for all the effort you’ve put in & that this Pokemon line is getting shown this kind of love!
