I apologize if I’m posting in the wrong section. This is my first post. : D
This is the set that brought me back into the hobby and I think overall it’s fantastic. At first I was confused as to why it included Dragonite, Pidgeot and Slowbro, since I knew these Pokemon was not in the original base set. After looking through my old binder I realized that the original Base set has Dratini, Dragonair, Pidgey and Pidgeotto. So, to me at least, it makes sense that the Evolutions set has Dragonite and Pidgeot. But I see no link between Base set and Slowbro. Does anyone know why this species was added to the set?
Like to me it would make more sense to add Butterfree since you already have Caterpie and Metapod for example.
In my eyes it was the closest pokemon to the base set that had not had a mega evolution present in the TCG, that deserved one. However, I always thought it was odd as you had slowking also as an evolution. I believe the only original 151 pokemon that had a Mega evolution in the games, that has not had a mega or ex card in the tcg is Pinsir.
“closest pokemon to base set that did not have a “Mega evolution””. There was no slowbro or slowpoke in the base set, both debut in english in fossil. However in the tcg each set has certain numbers of EX and Mega ex releases, which evolutions debut both pidgeot and slowbro as they are the only two besides pinsir left that had a mega evolve that had not been released yet. For instance, Dragonite does not have a mega evolve in the games therefore had no mega evolve in the evolutions set.
Oh wow haha, the current rotation is a little different now a days!
I don’t think there have been any exceptions as of yet where a TCG mega was released and there was not one in the games but I could be wrong.
Here is a list of all the megas from the games, then you can see what has been or not been released in the TCG. Some of them make some sense and some megas are just like, WHY?
From that list the pokemon capable of mega evoloution that arent featured in the tcg is: pinsir, abomasnow, medicham, banette, sableye, latias and lopunny.
