Here is PSA’s explanation on why they do not do 9.5s:
“PSA will add a half-point grade within each of the 1-10 numbers with the exception of a 9.5 grade. We felt it was unnecessary to add a third “Mint” grade since PSA already had a Mint 9 and Gem Mint 10 grade as part of the current scale.”
I think having a 9.5 M-GM would really help the weak 10s I see. I’ve graded a couple hundred cards and have never received a .5 graded card so even if they implemented it I do not know how liberally they would give it out.
That should’ve happened 20+ years ago when PSA started grading stuff, adding new grade in grading scale this late is next to impossible and at same time they’d basically admit their system hasn’t been reliable.
If you want 9.5’s try Beckett, don’t think you’ll be disappointed with quality.
I’m not a big fan of Beckett’s cases. Plus with all my PSA cards I don’t think Beckett would look good in my collection. I’ve toyed with buying a black label BGS card though.
