> I believe MTG is dying, tbh idk how much longer IRL playing card game life span has specifically in competitive.

This seems to be very hard to prove yes? I can say for sure, my workplace has a weekly games night and most of the people are MTG players. We also have people who have quick magic games during the lunch breaks with like a small group of clueless people like me gathering around just to see what is going on. However, I do not know if this is true for the teenager / zoomer demographic.

> There could be this insane Pikachu art 1/500 card that is serialized and comes out, but 1 year later a new Pikachu that is 1/500 with significantly better artwork comes out and the demand switches and may lead to a dump of the original as these “next best thing” collectors would not be able to hold more than 1 card,

I think artwork is still subjective yes? I think [this](https://www.elitefourum.com/t/favorite-japanese-art-academy-poll/35261) and [this](https://www.elitefourum.com/t/favorite-non-japanese-art-academy-poll/35728) threads prove that. You see a nice and healthy distribution of cards which are extremely rare but no outright favorites.

Lastly, I think it would be extremely hilarious if somebody buys a booster box with the one serialized card and just never opens it. Or if some person who opens it and has no idea of the value and never talks / posts about it. But business wise, if this is a 1 of 1 in the world, as a company, I would never release it and just milk the customers speculating and trying to open products. Unless there are X number of booster boxes which will be printed, you can always keep printing and re-printing and cite the low percentage chance of the card being pulled.

Nice topic though. Thanks!

Cheers!
