Hey! So I was doing some reading on Bulbapedia’s Miscellaneous Promo card section and came across this small set of promos that peaked my interest.
Having collected during the DP/P/HGSS sets, I didn’t remember any special variants that came in these three pack blisters.
I came across this image of a 3 pack blister on Ebay. (featuring the Flaaffy “promo”)
To me, it just looks like a normal reverse holo. Is there any special distinction between the reverse holo Secret Wonder cards in the sets versus the ones sold in these blisters? Worth making space for in a binder? I just found it weird that these cards were listed among other misc. promos.
Great! Thank you! Was curious, as other cards such as the holo POP variants, league promo, and other promo tin/box cards were listed in the same section. Wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing some weird printing factor that makes these different from the reverse holos in Secret Wonders, like the holo vs. non holo POP cards.
Chiming in here - per Bulbapedia they have a note around these reverse holos that states “The Secret Wonders expansion is unique in that some Reverse Holofoil versions of cards could only be found in Blister Packs that were sold in conjunction with its release.”
Do we know if that’s true? So you wouldn’t be able to get those 10 cards in reverse holo from the actual booster packs?
That’s indeed what I remember, I am sure about 3 reverses who only came in 3 blister packs. Flaaffy, Quaqsire and Breloom. I have all 3 blisters here because of that . All others I got out the normal boosters as far I remember.
Very interesting! Who would’ve thought 4 years later I’d learn something amazing about this set. I didn’t know that but that definitely makes them intriguing promos!
That doesn’t seem right - there wasn’t a peep about that at the time Secret Wonders was released, and it would have definitely been a topic. Time to watch all the pack openings!
There was absolute talked about it, but not here. At that time everyting happened on Pokegym.
I am sure about those reverses only being in those blisters.
I must have totally missed it! I joined PokeGym in 06, went to the SW prerelease, etc. etc. but never heard anything about missing reverse holos in the set
I don’t know how to revive/search old topics from Pokegym, but I’m pretty sure there was one about it.
As far as I remember this was the only set this happened.
Because I played and collected I remember. I really disliked it.
You have to realize, during a prerelease it wouldn’t be noticed if something was missing from the boosters. Certainly not if it were 2 or 3 reverses.
I still remember EX Dragon prerelease, while we were pulling Reverse TV Reporter we found out much later N-America didn’t got them in their boosters.
Different times, communication slower and not to many people focused on this.
