Sealed Japanese Southern Islands value

Hi. I’m looking to pick up the Japanese Southern Islands cards and came across all 6 packs, sealed for $2500. I can’t find them any cheaper anywhere but Reddit feedback is that they’re only worth $1000 to $1500 max. What do you think? Thanks!

Rule 1. Pay what you think it’s value is. You’ll never lose money.

Rule 2. Don’t go to Reddit for Pokemon Opinions.

Sealed Southern Island is a set that will only get rarer and harder to acquire as time goes on. Do with that what you will

Edit: Also the guy giving you advice on Reddit has since been banned so really don’t listen to his opinion lol

They were selling for $35-$50 on mercari last year and were abundant. Not worth it for me

Yes that is about their current range, probably on the upper end. I’ve been buying these sets sealed for almost 20 years. People saying they were $50 a year ago are maybe referring to the individual price of 3 card sets, excluding mew. I was buying these pretty aggressively a few years back and $500 was a decent price for a complete set. Here is the most recent sold complete sets:

Thanks very much for the link, I’ll be keeping an eye on that.

I was originally going to buy the cards separately to frame but seeing the sealed ones, it feels like buying a bit of history and with you still being able to see the cards through the pack, at least a bit, I can frame those and it’ll be the best of both worlds

Mercari only keeps sold info for the last 6 months but even in that timeframe we can see the non-mew sealed packs were ¥9000 - ¥12000 sealed. Makes sense though, I didn’t factor in the mew premium.

I bought two complete sets for $250-$285 between 2022-2024. I wouldn’t pay $1,000-$1,500 in 2026, but that’s price memory and ownership influencing my decision.
