Regional Bird Base Form Fight - 2 (vote to eliminate one)

Hello guys and the gen 9 birb is out first. Taillow is a meh design and this wattrel is a cheap copy of taillow. Being new gen already have it’s downsides and being a badder design would increase it. So wattrel goodbye.

Positions are:
9. Wattrel 8. ???

  • Pidgey
  • Hoothoot
  • Taillow
  • Starly
  • Pidove
  • Fletchling
  • Pikipek
  • Rookidee

It’s design is too simplified, as well as too rounded. But it is not rounded in the way that Hoothoot is round, Fletchling has no sharp edges or corners, and is one of the most obvious offenders when it comes to seeing the newer Pokemon design philosophy of TPC.

I think the danger with the bird Pokémon, is that like most Pokémon based on real world things, they become too much like those things and less ‘Pokemon’.

Pidove must go though. Dull with dull evolutions.

Another day, another Hoothoot vote.

Never like that one legged owl. And no matter how cool Noctowl was being the first ever Shiny Pokémon introduced to the anime, Hoothoot just stinks.

At least Pidove looks like an actual bird. Maybe the most realistic bird we’ve got.

Fletchling is my number one. It is just a really good runner, it looks really nice as a bird. I hope to see at least a few more days!

I agree but I don’t think that’s a good thing personally.

Also, Rookidee has the most personality from the pictures used but subject to the late gen hate as per

The way I would phrase is it TPC has softened their Pokemon designs over the years. Comparing Fletchling to Pidgey is a good example. Comparing Kanto Raichu to Alolan Raichu is another good example. Even rock types that should be sharp looking end up looking soft, and even somewhat rounded, such as Drednaw, Lycanroc, Coalossal, etc. They lack a roughness that designs like Nidoking for example possess. I would even say older Pokemon have more emphasis on specific anatomy where as new Pokemon are more simplified overall, which lead to that rounded look that I mentioned.

Yes! These are part of the “type fighters” sleeves released from 2019-2021 which had unique designs for each type in the tcg (except fairy)

Just a reminder that Hoothoot does have two feet but only stands on one at a time

Hot take.

But they are not based on the same bird. While Pidgey and Pidove are both based on a dove/pigeon, Starly is not.

Starly looks like a pudgy little marzipan figure.
