Hello guys and the gen 9 birb is out first. Taillow is a meh design and this wattrel is a cheap copy of taillow. Being new gen already have it’s downsides and being a badder design would increase it. So wattrel goodbye.
It’s design is too simplified, as well as too rounded. But it is not rounded in the way that Hoothoot is round, Fletchling has no sharp edges or corners, and is one of the most obvious offenders when it comes to seeing the newer Pokemon design philosophy of TPC.
I think the danger with the bird Pokémon, is that like most Pokémon based on real world things, they become too much like those things and less ‘Pokemon’.
The way I would phrase is it TPC has softened their Pokemon designs over the years. Comparing Fletchling to Pidgey is a good example. Comparing Kanto Raichu to Alolan Raichu is another good example. Even rock types that should be sharp looking end up looking soft, and even somewhat rounded, such as Drednaw, Lycanroc, Coalossal, etc. They lack a roughness that designs like Nidoking for example possess. I would even say older Pokemon have more emphasis on specific anatomy where as new Pokemon are more simplified overall, which lead to that rounded look that I mentioned.
