Question for knowledgeable currency collectors.

I’ve always had a small money collection since I was a kid. I still mainly just look for wheat pennies in my change after purchases and stuff. Anyway, I was looking up a $500, and a $1000 bill on eBay, and I noticed there were bills being sold for higher than their face value based on their serial numbers. Naturally my next step was to pull out my wallet, and a $10 bill that I had crinkled up and stuffed in my pocket like a degenerate. Sure enough, I take a look at the crinkled bill and it has a very odd serial number. None of the other bills I had we’re as interesting as this one. Anyone know what something like this is worth? How rare is this? It looks pretty cool, haha.

It’s a 5 of a kind, but the 4s aren’t consecutive, which makes it less desirable than it otherwise would be (according to my limited understanding). If they were consecutive, it would be a ‘solid’ 5 of a kind. It’s very close to being a ‘radar’ – if it were 44400444 it would be. Either way, pretty cool serial number. It’s probably worth more than face value to someone – you could try listing it as an auction on eBay.

Keep it. It is worth above face but the condition leaves a lot to be desired and would be hard to move

Awesome guys, thanks @gollox,@zorloth,@pokecollectoramy, It’s gotten me a little more interested in checking out some of the bills I go through when spending. Who knows, I’ve likely spent some notes with odd serial numbers before. Taking some classes on this at the University of Youtube as I type this.

It’s a pretty odd market – not sure I understand the appeal lol. But I read about it recently while researching currency collecting. It’s super interesting all the weird things that people collect (Pokemon cards included!). Also make sure to look out for serial numbers with historically important dates.
