QotD: Which part of the hobby do you find the most tedious, but unavoidable?

I know im terrible about having bulk on my dresser.
I need to get one of those tiered bulk card holder things? Friend of mine got one and it was fantastic for bulk i even made some labels for her for the divider tabs.

Right not everything is in ETB and its awful keeping track of where everything is at.
And as soon as i sit down to sort, the cats descend like demonic furry vultures. I was thankfully just able to mail out 100 some bulk of CZ to help someone with a masterset, so that was relief to see that chunk gone.

I need a designated tray area like that, great suggestion. I have gotten lucky at costco, DG, and Meijer a couple times and been able to open some product for MSRP, but yah my bulk issue has dropped major since paying double is whats expected now.

Thanks for sharing your method to control the maddness.

I now use the PSA app and use the photo feature and it is literally so fast creating subs. Def recommend it if you haven’t tried it.

I’ve got about 6k in bulk cards, and I finally got a storage system set up for them and it’s so nice. Very few cards sitting around (and the ones sitting around are usually there for a reason), and it’s pretty tightly packed, so it’s not taking up a lot of space
On another note, my answer to the question is: def selling; I don’t think it’s necessarily unavoidable, but it comes up a lot. It’s near impossible to sell stuff for above 80% market, since selling sites like eBay take a cut, and card stores/vendors take a bigger cut; however selling on like facebook marketplace is generally considered suspicious, and it’s only local sellers/buyers, so it’ll take longer to sell. I’m working on a Scizor masterset, and I’m trying to liquidate most of my collection for that and competitive singles, but I don’t have a good option to sell stuff.

Sorting one thousand slabs. There is some tetris complexity in devoting the compartments by era/sets. Realizing ultra pro sleeves sucks and having to replace one thousand of them…

That one in the blue box is out of place. :smiling_face_with_horns:

I’d probably say cleaning up.

Organizing the cards into ones you want/bulk, then getting your pokemon tote from the top of the closet, realizing you don’t have anymore space to put another empty ETB box, but then also realizing you need the box because you don’t have any more space to put your bulk, then looking at all the cards you have in there and reminiscing for a good while. Then when you come to you realize again that you still haven’t found what to do with that empty ETB box…but you don’t want to just throw it away because you might need it later.

Then you spend more time cleaning up and organizing than you did opening up the packs.

The most tedious part of the hobby is scrolling through thousands of eBay listings that have nothing to do with what I am looking for because of keyword spam.

For me it’s trying to figure out what the hell condition a card is in before buying. I mainly just use eBay to see the pictures and TCGPlayer for only under $10, but man. Light Play ain’t Light Playing like it used to. The past couple years the ā€œqualificationsā€ for each quality has been changing too much and too open.

Selling.

Taking photos, discussing condition and price, and most of all packing orders :sob:
