That it wouldn’t hurt to watch it get older. (Specifically card collecting.)
But tbh, this applies to so many franchises and hobbies that I feel like I’ve watched about 90% of the things I enjoyed get commodified and/or have the soul drained out of them by terrible writing.

Since 2012 I have made poor prediction after poor prediction, with each having led to a terrible decision that left enduring trails of viscous regret.
In 2022 I predicted that because population reports and knowledge of Gold Stars was already well established across new and old collectors, they would behave like steady, well-grounded dividend-paying stocks, so I sold my PSA 10 Gold Star Mew for £2.5k to cash out on some profit as I wanted to re-allocate the cash. I believe the most recent auction for this card kicked the arse off $200k?
This is the price you pay for not being a troocollector. A lesson I learned some time ago but continually neglect to put into practice is: NEVER FUCKING SELL*.
*or, as Milhouse once said, “The secret is to buy things and hold them so long that you get scared to sell them because it’s too much money involved.”

I seriously underestimated how much species popularity matters nowadays. This is the era of social media, and people coming in without a collector background: popularity is a new fundamental and I failed to recognize that.
For example, I didn’t give priority to cards like corocoro Mew, assuming that it would have been better to focus on rarer cards. Same when I bought my first (and unfortunately only) Gold star: I was undecided between a mint Kyogre and a lower grade Mew, and I ended up with the first because I reasoned like a Hoe, while the market clearly couldn’t care less.
Even as a seller I sold many vintage cards assuming that “bulk is bulk”: wrong, again. I thought I knew the right value of my stuff because I considered myself a “seasoned collector”, but you have to keep up with trends, even if you think it’s dumb. Check the price of your damn Slowpoke, Psyduck, Ditto, Cubone, and Komiya commons, before dumping them.

All those people who need unique and checkable goals without breaking the bank and all those Japanese/Nigerian/Azerbaijani unlimited runs printed on 18 sheets of Temu papyrus. This stuff was available in cases below MSRP at one point, it’s enough to keep you up at night.

no one selling during that time knew that investor bros would go batshit crazy for pokemans when it was flat or slow decline for years 
that auction recap guy took a “break” for like a year coz ppl were losing money like crazy

That once pokemon up their production and meet demands scalping will be dead because of the abundance of product, people will realise how much supply of modern day cards there are and all vintage 1st editions will become extremely valuable

That people would care more about the rarest versions of Base set over modern mass print modern stuff. Some versions of Base had maybe only had a few hundred packs ever printed if that. It’s good for some of us though, we are still able to record history and solve ongoing mysteries for affordable prices.

Anime prediction - Ash having a shot at becoming Kalos league champion.
Card prediction - I could say selling a few cards that would be hard to get again but I sold for other cards that would be harder to get as well.
I would say biggest mistake is prioritizing other collections over pokemon during covid. I still collected Pokemon, but not as heavily in 2021 compared to years prior. I got too focused on starting my undergrad and collecting Lego Star Wars/WWE figures.
I will say the silver lining is this led me to collect more intensely during 2022 till current day.
