In this Weekly Sunday Auction PWCC has 4733 Pokemon cards listed.
2491 (52,63%) PSA
2180 (46%) CGC
41 (0,86%) BGS (poor BGS ,give some love to it XD)
21 (0,44%) others
My Prediction end of May- beginning of June
CGC > PSA
if CGC reaches 60%, this partnership would be a total success.
Could PSA do the same with Goldin in the future? I don’t believe. I mean, PSA could do it, but there is a big difference with CGC. CGC and PWCC are two different companies, while PSA and Goldin are both owned by Collector Universe, so there is a big conflict of interest.
i mean psa has been closed/ restricted for over a year, so im not rly sure comparing the quantity listed or graded is valid. it’ll be interesting to see how cgc fairs once psa is fully open. i dont think psa needs to do all that, they could just reopen and do what they’ve been doing and that’d be fine imo
Open or not if the capacity doesn’t increase it’s the same. If PSA re-open today every service level it still grading 40k per day.
Cgc grading average 3000 cards per day. That means about 15.000 every week. PWCC have listed this week 2100 CGC cards, 14% of the total cards graded by CGC are on PWCC. PSA grade daily 6000 Pokemon cards, the double of CGC, 30.000 per week, but the cards on PWCC are just 8%. That means the quantity of people grading with CGC for profit are a lot of more than personal collection. I don’t think this is good for CGC in long term.
Wow, seems like a great move by CGC. If their goal is to be the number one Pokémon grader, then finding ways to grade more and more cards compared to PSA and BGS will lead to them being the dominant one.
Does it ever become a conflict of interest for a grading company and auction house to partner? Wouldn’t it have an incentive to give higher grades to fetch higher prices?
That incentive already technically exists with upcharges. So now giving higher grades would yield more money directly to PSA for the upcharge and then more downstream for collectors holdings when goldin sells them. I’m quite sure a direct service like this will come about when PSA is open at lower levels.
If anyone is looking to get cards graded through PWCC with the new CGC deal, I’ve now got approval for insured shipping labels for anyone looking to grade in large quantities (dollar value or amount of cards) to PWCC for anyone interested. As well if you have any general questions about it, just feel free to reach out to me.
Do you know how people out USA should declare when sending cards to PWCC or for grading? As gift? As goods? I don’t want them upcharge by some kind of fees and then upcharge me back.
They’re all scrambling and working hard. It’s actually a little sad to watch but competition is normally good. PSA will surely put some distance between them and the others eventually especially when they put more emphasis on AI.
Total: $806.40 ($67.20 per card) / $444 ($37 per card)
Overall, I’m somewhat disappointed in the sales and some grades being lower than expected, but I can’t blame the process. I will re-use the service in the future, but only with cards I am confident will sell for >$40.
Pros:
Zero money upfront
No need to fill out any paperwork, simply send the cards to PWCC
Cards went from raw to graded and sold within 6 weeks
Only shipping cost was sending to PWCC. Saves me nearly $4/card vs a padded bubble mailer and cardboard sandwich with first class tracking on eBay
Cons:
Now that PSA has introduced a $30 tier, the $20 grading cost is less appealing. Especially so with <$50 cards where PWCC takes the full 20% buyer premium.
I was a bit foolish with some of the cards I sent, and should have sold them raw instead (cough cough Lunala GX), but that’s on me.
You don’t know your grades until they are in the vault. My cards all had the same Submission ID serial, so I assume they were graded as one submission. It would be great to add the ID to the submission once the cards are in grading or received. That way, I could have known my grades a few days ahead of time. For example, if CGC finished grading a submission on Friday, and I happened to check as one does, and got excellent grades, I might be willing to splurge on a Weekly Sunday auction. But with the existing system, I wouldn’t know my grades until after the auction ended.
