I’ve complained about this plenty on discord but I’m trying to use the forums more so figured I’d make this post as well.
After nearly 12 months at PSA, my baby shiny hidden fates cards were sent back ungraded as “factory misprint” - and no refund in sight. So while being out the $110 in grading fees is frustrating I guess it could have been worse.
That’s the million dollar question. Some of the folks on discord mentioned some sort of glossy texture on the non holo part of the card is common on baby shiny cards from Hidden Fates. My tin foil hat hypothesis is that PSA is trying to get through the backlog quicker and is using stuff like this as an excuse to not grade
Pretty sure if you refuse to pay the upcharge they send the cards back with the mingrade error like the one guys post. Something tells me there is much more to that facebook story, seeing as all the cards sent back were obviously higher value.
If that’s the case I could see not having the cash on hand for that entire submission return, but you’d think he’d pay it for at least the 1st ed charizard. Crazy situation and of course we only see one side of it
The later print runs of Hidden Fates indeed had both textured and glossy print runs instead of regular ones for the Shiny Pokémon. Pretty weird PSA doesn’t grade those, though. In the past they usually just ignored those kind of printing differences, or weren’t even aware of them in the first place.
Sorry to hear about your sub, sucks it took so long to return in same state. As for the facebook post, i dont trust anything that people post on there. Talk about inexperienced/uneducated, people spend so much time on their trying to take down psa it looks coordinated.
I had a couple baby shinies come back ungraded and I had no idea why as well. I’ve had messages on a few of my baby shiny listings showing photos under a flashlight asking if they are glossy or matte or something of the sort but I’ve not taken the time to check. I guess that must be the case with what I’m seeing here.
That linked FB post just screams refusal to pay upcharges to me. Imagine submitting those cards in bulk, lol. I’m a vocal critic of PSA but that story just doesn’t add up as described. I’ve never heard of anyone putting PSA 1 as a min grade, you simply just don’t check the min grade box meaning you want it graded regardless.
Surely they will refund you….I’m sure I’ve seen other people in the same position but have been refunded.
PSA may want to get through the backlog but they shouldn’t be ignoring customer service. I guess it’s a huge topic and debate. Either way, I hope you get your refund and then send to CGC!!
Not you, but I’m wondering why that facebook guy put a minimum grade 1 qualifier. Seems that just caused confusion and they would have been graded if he omitted that.
What, did he think the cards had a chance on getting “Authentic” only? 1 is the lowest grade you can get, so they wouldn’t grade lower than that, lol.
If I’m paying for it, I’d prefer the cards get graded regardless and then have the choice of cracking, rather than grading and getting them sent back in top loaders with no protective sleeve.
As for your issue, I don’t know what PSA was thinking. Since when don’t they grade miscuts or texture issues? Seems bad on their part. What a waste of time.
@pokenastic, For the facebook post I think we’re hearing one side of the story that may not be 100% truthful. Other folks in this thread like @joetehman, and @gottaketchumall, make some good points about failing to pay up charges.
Regarding my issue, it may be bad luck/a picky grader. Definitely stings after a year of waiting
Getting scammed like that should be reason to avoid sending to PSA atleast until they get there shit together. To me it’s crazy that they just refuse to grade cards and still get paid. If they don’t grade it shouldn’t be charged for it.
Be the change you want to see. Im sure many would agree with you, but they all understand daddy PSA makes their cards worth more $$$, so they just continue to bend over. Beckett is any better.
