Price Check- PSA 4 1999 Tropical Wind

Hello! I was curious if anyone could help me value a PSA 4 Tropical Wind from the 1999 Tropical Mega Battle. I know these are fairly rare cards and are priced quite high. I’ve done a bit of research and I see PSA 8 and above can go for over a thousand dollars quite easily. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

its hard to judge so i have to give a big range. $400-$800.

If you’re selling you can just put it on auction and people will bid it to where it value is at, assuming you don’t have anything bad on your account, know how to use keywords correctly, and have over 200 of mostly selling feedback.

Hmm ok. Yeah, I’m not selling, I’m actually looking to buy one and wanted to get a few opinions on a fair offer for it. It looks really good for a PSA 4. I almost say it’s worth a regrade. The front is almost flawless and the back just has minor edge wear. Both me and the seller are puzzled why it got a 4.

I am even willing to go a bid higher on an estimate. But indeed keep the wide range.

I think only @smpratte Scott can give good insight on pricing on a card like Tropical Wind. And especially Pokémon collectors usually not dealing in sub-PSA7 grades.

I like Scott as a person I respect his opinion but I’m sorry, some of you people need to stop thinking of him as some sort of demigod with be all end all knowledge.

There’s plenty of people here that have the same knowledge as him, he’s not above everyone. He’s like the Neil deGrasse Tyson of Pokemon, respected and well know, but not the only one.

*this is not a shot at Scott, it is a shot at the people who view in the manner I’ve described.*

Well regardless, I’m just happy for anybody’s opinion for pricing on old prize cards.

@cullers is pretty much right on. A PSA Authentic sold for about $600 not too long ago at auction. Last sale before that was a Psa 9 for just over $1k buy it now on eBay. This card has been more scarce lately than it had been in previous years so it’s probably on an upward trend.

If you are looking to sell, you can always list it for the price you want (say $800 in this case) and test the waters…see what kind of offers you get. Personally I would not let it go for anything less than $500 minimum.

Well that’s the thing. I’m wanting to make an offer but don’t want to low ball the guy. But at the same time I don’t want to over pay you know?

So the front is “almost flawless” and the back only has “minor edge wear”? And it’s sitting in a PSA 4 case? lol

If that is accurate according to what you can see then there’s a MAJOR PROBLEM you can’t see. The seller is either ignorant or a scam artist.
Now don’t fall for it. It’s a 4 which means HEAVILY DAMAGED and offer accordingly;)

(Was I gentle enough mods?lol)

Sorry, I should have paid more attention, I thought you were the one selling…long day! Anyways, what does the person want? Or are they telling you to make an offer first? Typically the seller put a price out there first.

In all honesty, and with true humility, the only person qualified to be the final word on any subject from Pokemon to harvesting tunica albuginea is me

As many others would aptly say to this situation; you’re paying for the grade. Yes, if it were a 10 with edge wear and so on I would reverse this statement but if it’s a PSA4 there’s a reason for that. If it was actually worth regrading there’d be no reason for the seller not to do it unless it was only going to get a PSA5 or 6 at most (in which case it’s still better to cut your losses and sell at the current 4 grade).

Eh I am going to have to disagree with you on this one. I have a psa 4 Kamex mega battle card which is in its own right in amazing condition ( I handled it before I sent it in) however, there is a crease in the card that is noticeable when tilted in the light and visible on both sides of the card. It does not pick up in scans and it the card overall maintains a wonderful visual appeal

That being said just understand what you are buying and as Gary said, offer accordingly

That’s true. I mean the seller is flexible with the price but I want to make a reasonable offer. Why he hasn’t gotten it regraded? I don’t know, just from the pics it looks really good. From the pics it looks like it has edge wear but thats it.

After seeing the pictures I have to say it looks really nice, but I have to agree with Not Zelda Gilroy.

I would overpay a bit for a card that presents so well, but remember, if you go to sell you are selling a 4. You could try a re-sub if you buy it and truly feel it should be higher. Maybe you get lucky and it was a mislabel and it should have been an 8 or something.

I think there is just going to be something hard to spot like mkpokecc described that hammered the grade.

That looks to be on the higher end of the spectrum. I’m going to assume when you see it in person you’ll notice some heavy waiving on the card that doesn’t pick up well in pictures.

That’s what I’m worried about. I guess I could ask for more pics at different angles to see if there’s a bend hiding somewhere?

When you say waiving, are you referring to it being warped? That could be true…
